E-cigarette enthusiasts often ask: what is the lifespan of a coil, how much does it cost, how long does it work, after how long should it be changed? Located inside the clearomiser, the coil of your e-cigarette is of course the heart of its operation. A truly essential component of the tank, it is responsible for vaporising the e-liquid and enabling vaping. To ensure your vape works properly, you must however remember to change it regularly, when it starts to wear out or when you want to change flavour.
So, how do you know if the coil of your e-cigarette is worn out and obsolete?
How do you find the best coil for an e-cigarette?
The answer to this question is not straightforward and depends on several factors. We will try to guide you on the subject.
Pre-built coils are the most commonly used. These coils consist of a resistive steel element and a wick soaked in liquid, usually made of cotton. This wick tends to wear out quickly. That is why it is important to change your equipment regularly.
It is essential that you pay attention to multiple elements, such as the taste of the e-liquid or a coil that turns black, in order to know when you need to change the coil of your e-cigarette.
The first sign indicating that your coil is starting to wear out is the taste of the e-liquid. When you start to notice a loss of the original flavour, and the taste is no longer exactly the same as before when you vape, this should catch your attention. So pay close attention to any change in taste. Being used to a certain flavour, you should be able to notice the difference.
This is also the reason why we recommend changing your coil if you want to switch to a new flavour. This way, you can fully enjoy your new flavour without being tainted by the lingering traces of the previous one.
When you vape regularly, much like the filter of your cigarette when you smoke, the coil gradually deteriorates and starts to turn black. When it changes colour and a deposit forms on it, that is the moment to think about changing it. So keep a close eye on the condition of your coil, even if the deposit is sometimes barely visible.
Many vapers try to maintain their electronic equipment regularly. But cleaning your coil is not the best solution. The cotton tends to lose its shape and the flavours gradually lose their taste. Cleaning your coil is therefore not sufficient. You can, however, rinse your tank from time to time, particularly when you change your coil. You will then be better able to enjoy your new flavours, while also giving your equipment a little refresh.
There is no standard regarding the lifespan of an e-cigarette coil. The lifespan of a coil is indeed highly variable. It depends first and foremost on the type of clearomiser you use, as each one has a recommended number of vapes. So check your clearomiser and its usage guide. Note that you can perfectly well build your own coil yourself.
But other factors can also come into play — the lifespan of a coil can indeed vary depending on how many vapes you take per day, your expectations in terms of flavour, the maintenance conditions of your e-cigarette, whether you keep your equipment away from heat, etc. For regular vapers, it is recommended to change it every 2 weeks to one month. But this obviously depends on your daily usage. Be sure to research the coils and clearomisers you will find on levapoteur-discount.fr and analyse the advice based on your usage. For those who are particularly fond of flavours, a regular change will only give you greater satisfaction.
The best coil for an e-cigarette will be the one suited to your e-liquid. We discussed this in our article on e-liquid leaking in e-cigarettes.
The ideal is to use an e-liquid suited to your usage, which will give your coils a long and healthy life! A long-lasting coil is one that is used within the correct power ranges, and with a liquid suited to that power range.
A coil that doesn't last is very often linked to a usage problem.
