The Le Vapoteur Discount guide to choosing your 10 ml e-liquid

Essential to any e-cigarette, the e-liquid is the heart of your vaping experience. The 10 ml format is currently the only one authorised to contain nicotine under European regulations. Compact, practical and easy to carry, it allows you to try a flavour, adjust your nicotine level or vape daily with ease.
It is also the ideal format to support a journey of reducing or quitting tobacco, at your own pace.

What nicotine level should you choose for your e-liquid?

The right nicotine level depends above all on your smoker profile and your habits. The aim is to satisfy the craving without discomfort, whilst maintaining an enjoyable vape.

  • Light smoker (fewer than 5 cigarettes per day)
    0 to 6 mg/ml
    A mild dosage, sufficient to curb the urge to smoke whilst offering a light throat sensation.

  • Moderate smoker (5 to 15 cigarettes per day)
    6 to 12 mg/ml
    An ideal balance to replicate the sensation of a traditional cigarette, without frustration.

  • Heavy smoker (more than 15 cigarettes per day)
    12 to 18 mg/ml
    A higher level, designed to meet a significant nicotine need, particularly at the start of cessation.

  • Heavy smoker (more than 20 cigarettes per day)
    18 to 20 mg/ml
    The maximum permitted dosage, often associated with nicotine salts, for faster absorption and a smoother sensation.

These indications remain guidelines: every vaper is unique. Your personal experience, the throat hit and the equipment used may lead you to adjust your dosage.

Choosing the right equipment for a vegetable glycerin VG-rich e-liquid (30/70 and 20/80)

E-liquids with a dominant vegetable glycerin (VG) are distinguished by their thicker texture and their ability to produce dense and generous vapour. They offer a smoother throat sensation and are particularly appreciated by vapers who enjoy direct lung (DL) vaping and large clouds.

E-cigarette

Due to their high viscosity, these e-liquids require powerful sub-ohm e-cigarettes, such as:

Pods

Clearomisers

For optimal e-liquid feed and to avoid dry hits, it is recommended to use sub-ohm clearomisers, designed for thick liquids:

Coils

Low coils, ranging between 0.15 ohm and 0.4 ohm, are ideal for efficiently vaporising a VG-rich e-liquid.

Drip tip

A drip tip wide 810 format is recommended to facilitate direct inhalation and allow a large volume of vapour to pass through.

Wattage settings

VG-rich e-liquids perform best at high wattage.
Vaping above 40 watts is recommended, while of course following the coil manufacturer's guidelines.

Looking after your e-cigarette

Regular maintenance is essential to ensure a healthy, flavourful and long-lasting vape:

  • Regularly clean the clearomiser and drip tip to prevent the build-up of residue;
  • Replace the coil as soon as the flavours deteriorate or the vapour decreases (on average every 2 to 3 weeks) and take the opportunity to thoroughly clean your clearomiser;
  • Avoid leaving a filled tank with the same e-liquid for more than 5 days without use, to limit the risk of leakage or flavour deterioration.

Safety precautions

  • If you do not smoke, do not vape;
  • Product containing nicotine: prohibited for minors, not recommended for pregnant women or people with cardiovascular disorders or hypertension;
  • In case of allergies, check for any allergens (limonene, tree nuts, etc.) listed on the label;
  • In case of skin contact, rinse thoroughly with water and soap;
  • Store your e-liquids in a dry place, away from light and temperature fluctuations, out of reach of children and animals.

Please recycle: empty bottles must be disposed of through the appropriate recycling channels.

FAQ

An e-liquid (or liquid for e-cigarettes) is the product that generates vapour when heated by the coil of an e-cigarette. Unlike traditional cigarettes, there is no combustion. The e-liquid is composed of a base (propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin), flavourings, and optionally nicotine. It is what determines the taste, the throat sensation, the cloud production, and the overall vaping experience.

An e-liquid generally contains four elements:

  • propylene glycol (PG), which carries the flavours, enhances the throat hit and provides a sensation close to that of a cigarette;
  • vegetable glycerin (VG), responsible for the vapour and cloud density;
  • flavourings, which provide the taste (fruit, mint, classic tobacco, dessert, ice…);
  • nicotine, optional, which helps manage cravings in vapers who are cutting down.

Some formulas also use alternative plant-based bases (Végétol) for a smoother experience.

An e-liquid with nicotine is intended for vapers who wish to replace the traditional cigarette. Nicotine acts on the feeling of satisfaction and reduces cravings. Nicotine-free e-liquids are used either at the end of a cessation programme or purely for the pleasure of vaping, although it is not recommended to vape if you are not a smoker. Choosing the right nicotine level is essential to avoid a poor experience (irritation or cravings). The nicotine dosage depends on your previous cigarette consumption. A light smoker will not have the same needs as a heavy smoker. A level that is too low can lead to frustration and relapse, whilst a level that is too high can cause throat discomfort. The goal is to find a balance between hit, sensation and vaping comfort, adjusting gradually as needed. A low dosage of 0, 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine is generally recommended for light smokers or occasional smokers (fewer than 7 cigarettes per day), and a high dosage of 20 mg/ml of nicotine salt for heavy smokers (1 packet of cigarettes or more). However, this dosage can be adjusted depending on your e-cigarette and your vaping style.

Nicotine salt is a more stable form of nicotine that is gentler on inhalation. It provides rapid absorption with a less harsh throat hit, even at high levels. Nicotine salt e-liquids are particularly suited to beginner vapers, former heavy smokers and low-power MTL kits. Various nicotine salt dosages are available. The best known and most effective is 20 mg/ml, highly suitable for heavy smokers. However, a dosage of 10 mg/ml may be perfectly adequate for a regular or occasional smoker.

A nicotine booster is a nicotine-concentrated bottle designed to be added to a large-format e-liquid. It allows you to adjust the final nicotine level depending on the quantity added. Flexible and economical, this solution allows you to boost your large-format e-liquid to 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine. For a 50 ml e-liquid, adding one nicotine booster will give you 3 mg/ml; two nicotine boosters will turn your e-liquid into 6 mg/ml.

The propylene glycol / vegetable glycerine ratio has a strong influence on the vaping experience.

  • An e-liquid rich in propylene glycol or PG (70/30, 80/20) enhances the throat hit, flavour precision and a discreet vape. The e-liquid will be thin and only compatible with tight-draw MTL equipment to avoid leaks.
  • An e-liquid rich in vegetable glycerine or VG (30/70) produces more vapour and cloud, with a softer, sweeter sensation. This thicker e-liquid is compatible with sub-ohm or hookah-style electronic cigarettes, producing large vapour clouds at high wattage.

The choice therefore depends on the wattage and compatibility with your electronic cigarette. If in doubt, the most common ratio remains 50/50 PG/VG. Well-balanced, it allows versatile use across MTL, RDL and light DTL electronic cigarette models (approximately between 15 and 40 watts).

Plant-based e-liquids or those made with Végétol replace traditional propylene glycol. They are often gentler on the throat, better tolerated by vapers who are sensitive to PG, and offer a smoother vape without compromising on flavour. However, they should be used in MTL mode at low power (minimum 30 watts) to avoid the risk of leaks and preserve the quality of the product.

Yes, CBD e-liquids are designed for vaping and generally do not contain nicotine. They offer a different sensation, focused on relaxation, without any addictive effect. They should be used at moderate wattage to preserve the quality of the product. We recommend pairing them with a tight-draw MTL electronic cigarette.

E-liquids are considered a much healthier alternative to smoked tobacco. They are formulated from ingredients certified as safe for health, unlike the 7,000 harmful substances found in traditional cigarettes. Nevertheless, to choose a safe e-liquid, a few precautions should be taken, such as purchasing your e-liquid from a recognised retailer such as Le Vapoteur Discount, or checking the composition and origin by favouring reputable and regulated brands.

An e-liquid manufactured in France meets strict requirements and European directives regarding traceability, quality control and safety. As a guarantee of quality and transparency for the consumer, French and European brands generally have their own laboratory for developing their e-liquid formula and are obliged to have that formulation assessed by an independent laboratory before placing it on the market. All of these steps ensure that e-liquids are safe for vapers. These French and European quality standards prohibit undesirable substances and provide a more secure framework for vaping.

To keep your e-liquid as long as possible and preserve its quality, taste and colour, store it in its original bottle and ideally away from light, heat and air. Despite these precautions, the e-liquid may sometimes take on a slightly brown tint. Safe and fit for consumption, this colour is due to the oxidation of nicotine and may also depend on the flavouring used in the e-liquid. It is generally recommended not to keep the same e-liquid for more than 5 days in your clearomiser or pod cartridge if you are not using it, to avoid leaks and excessive oxidation.

The DLUO (Best Before Date) or DDM (Minimum Durability Date) is an indicative date. Once the e-liquid's date has passed, it may lose its taste qualities and appearance (colour, fluidity). An e-liquid fresh from the factory will have a DDM of approximately 2 years. Even past the DDM, the e-liquid remains suitable for vaporisation and will not be harmful to health.
