Voopoo Argus, Doric, Drag: cartridges and coils
Built-in cartridge coil or separate coil: the matrix of the Voopoo ranges, their cartridges and their coil families.
Built-in cartridge coil or separate coil: the matrix of the Voopoo ranges, their cartridges and their coil families.
At Voopoo, two approaches coexist. The Argus, Vmate and Doric ranges use cartridges with built-in coils: the entire cartridge is replaced. The Drag and Vinci ranges use separate PnP Vinci or PnP X coils, which are changed independently of the tank.
Knowing which family your device belongs to answers most compatibility questions. This article compares the ranges side by side: capacity, battery capacity, draw type, cartridge and coil family.
The first approach is the cartridge with a built-in coil. The tank and heating element are one unit: when the wick is worn, the whole unit is discarded and replaced. This is the principle behind Argus Top Fill, Vmate and Doric cartridges. Maintenance is simple, but the unit replacement cost is higher.
The second approach separates the two elements. The tank is kept and only the coil is changed. This is the principle behind the PnP Vinci and PnP X platforms, found in the Drag and Vinci ranges. Choosing the ohm value then becomes a genuine setting, explained in how to set the right wattage for your coils.
Argus devices are compact pods with built-in coil cartridges. The product pages state that the Argus G2 Mini + has a 1,500 mAh battery, up to 30 W of power, a 3 ml Argus Top Fill cartridge with a built-in 0.7-ohm coil, auto-draw activation and USB-C charging, in a 123 x 25.6 x 13.4 mm format.
The Argus G3 Mini features a 1,350 mAh battery, the same 30 W power output and the same 3 ml cartridge, in a shorter 97.9 x 25.8 x 13.7 mm format. The Argus G4 increases to 1,650 mAh and 35 W, with a 3.5 ml pod, top filling, a screen, adjustable airflow and a coil available in three values: 0.4, 0.7 and 1.0 ohm.
The 3 ml Argus Top Fill V2 cartridges are sold in packs of three, with built-in coils in 0.4, 0.7 or 1.0 ohm.
Vmate V2 cartridges feature a 3 ml tank and a built-in coil available in 0.7 or 1.2 ohm, compatible with the VMate Infinity, VMate E and V Thru Pro kits. The 3 ml Vmate Top Fill cartridges are supplied empty with a built-in coil in 0.4, 0.7 or 1.0 ohm and top filling; the 0.4-ohm value is reserved for the Vmate Pro kit.
In the Doric range, Doric Galaxy cartridges feature 2 ml capacity and a built-in 1.2-ohm coil, for mouth-to-lung vaping. Doric Go cartridges increase to 5 ml, with a choice of 0.6 or 1.0 ohm, four-level adjustable airflow and an interchangeable 510 drip tip.
The 5 ml Vinci E cartridges, listed as compatible with the Vinci E120 and E80 kits, are available in 0.3, 0.6 or 0.8 ohm. On Vinci models fitted with a PnP slot, only the coil is replaced.
The Drag X3 kit runs on a removable 18650 or 21700 battery, not supplied, and delivers up to 80 W. It takes a 5 ml PnP X DTL cartridge fitted with a PnP X coil, and its product page also lists it as compatible with PnP X MTL cartridges.
PnP X cartridges are available in two versions, both 5 ml and sold in packs of two: the MTL version for a tight draw, listed as compatible with the X2 and S2 pods as well as the Doric 60 Pro kit, and the DTL version for an airy draw, listed as compatible with the X2 and S2 pods. The cartridge determines the draw type, while the coil determines the wattage.
The values below are those stated on the catalogue product pages.
| Range | Tank type | Capacity | Coil values | Power supply |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Argus G2 Mini +, G3 Mini | Cartridge with built-in coil | 3 ml | 0.4 / 0.7 / 1.0 ohm | Built-in 1,350 to 1,500 mAh battery |
| Argus G4 | Pod with built-in coil | 3.5 ml | 0.4 / 0.7 / 1.0 ohm | Built-in 1,650 mAh battery |
| Vmate | Cartridge with built-in coil | 3 ml | 0.4 / 0.7 / 1.0 / 1.2 ohm | Built-in battery |
| Doric Galaxy | Cartridge with built-in coil | 2 ml | 1.2 ohm | Built-in battery |
| Doric Go | Cartridge with built-in coil | 5 ml | 0.6 / 1.0 ohm | Built-in battery |
| Vinci E80, E120 | Cartridge with built-in coil | 5 ml | 0.3 / 0.6 / 0.8 ohm | Built-in battery |

Sold in packs of five, PnP Vinci coils are listed as compatible with Drag, Vinci and V.Suit pods, provided the device is fitted with a PnP cartridge or clearomiser. The product page lists eight values with their wattage ranges: VM-6 at 0.15 ohm for 60 to 80 W, VM-5 at 0.2 ohm for 40 to 60 W, VM-1 at 0.3 ohm for 32 to 40 W, VM-3 at 0.45 ohm for 25 to 35 W, VM-4 at 0.6 ohm for 20 to 28 W, TM-2 and DW80 at 0.8 ohm for 12 to 18 W, and TR1 at 1.2 ohm for 10 to 15 W.
The principle remains the same: the lower the ohm value, the higher the required wattage and the airier the draw.
The PnP X platform is more recent and offers broader compatibility. The PnP X V2 coil page lists them for use with the Drag X3, X2, S3 and S2, Vinci E80 and E120, Spark 100, Doric 60 Pro, UForce X, Argus E40 and Pro 2 kits, as well as PnP X Tank MTL and DTL tanks and PnP X cartridges.
The listed values are 0.15 ohm for 60 to 80 W, 0.20 ohm for 40 to 60 W, 0.30 ohm for 32 to 42 W, 0.45 ohm for 25 to 32 W and 0.60 ohm for 18 to 23 W. The previous generation also included a 0.80-ohm value for 12 to 16 W.
Key point: a PnP Vinci coil does not fit a PnP X slot, and vice versa. If in doubt, the reference printed on the coil body provides the answer.
Mouth-to-lung vaping, or MTL, reproduces the action of smoking: vapour is first held in the mouth. It requires a high-value coil, around 1 ohm or above, low wattage and restricted airflow. This is the setting most often chosen by smokers switching to vaping.
Direct-to-lung vaping, or DTL, sends vapour directly into the lungs. It requires a low-value coil, below 0.3 ohm, high wattage and open airflow. Between the two, RDL offers a compromise, available for example with the Argus G4 and Doric Go cartridges.
The nicotine content of vaping products is no more than 20 mg/ml in France, pursuant to the order of 19 May 2016[1]. The same text requires tamper-proof child-resistant packaging and protection against breakage and leakage.
The ratio of propylene glycol to vegetable glycerine matters just as much as the ohm value. Product pages recommend a balanced 50/50 e-liquid for pods with built-in coil cartridges, and a higher glycerine content for low-value coils intended for direct-to-lung vaping. This is explained in detail in what PG/VG means in e-liquid.
A coil wears out, and performance deteriorates before it stops working. Warning signs are detailed in the signs of a faulty e-cigarette coil, and approximate lifespans in how long an e-cigarette coil lasts.
Maintenance for the rest of the device is described in how to clean your e-cigarette. If the device no longer responds, the various e-cigarette faults lists common causes.
At end of life, the device falls under the waste electrical and electronic equipment stream. ADEME states that it can be returned to the retailer or handed to the delivery driver when purchasing a new product, placed in an in-store collection bin or taken to a recycling centre[4]. Removable batteries should be placed in battery collection bins.
