What do I need to make my e-liquid?

You must first take note of the flavor percentage recommended by the manufacturer.

What do I need to make my e-liquid?

A DIY flavor is composed of one or more food and/or natural flavors as well as a small percentage of propylene glycol (used to dilute and bind the flavors).

We often talk about food flavoring in the vaping world, but be careful — it will not be exactly the same as the one intended for cooking. Indeed, a different use requires different properties; Le Vapoteur Discount explains:

A flavor intended for use in a cake or other culinary preparations may deteriorate beyond a certain temperature. Conversely, a flavor intended for vaping must withstand very high temperatures; for this reason, it must be manufactured for inhalation and not for ingestion.

What is the composition of a nicotine booster?

In a booster, we generally find concentrated nicotine (20 mg/ml) or nicotine salt. Vegetable glycerin (VG) and/or propylene glycol (PG), as well as for some nicotine boosters Mono Vegetable Propylene (MVP), a vegetable substitute for simple Propylene Glycol, which itself is derived from petrochemistry.

As with bases, there are several variants: PG/VG at 30/70 - 50/50 - 70/30 - 20/80 - 0/100, etc.

• Store your bottle away from light and at room temperature.
• Shake your product every day. (Depending on the chosen flavor, the maturation date is more or less long).
• Of course, you can consume your e-liquid directly without any particular maturation; you simply won't have a high flavor experience.

What precautions should be taken during the manufacturing of my e-liquid?

Even at low concentrations, nicotine is a dangerous product; you must always wear your personal protective equipment when handling nicotine-containing products (gloves and goggles).

Warning: flavors and additives must not be used without being mixed with a small quantity of neutral base. Always store nicotine-containing products in a place accessible only to you and out of reach of children.

How long does a DIY e-liquid need to mature?

The maturation time, also called steeping or step for a DIY e-liquid, depends essentially on the chosen flavor. Natural or synthesized flavors take time to develop once you have mixed them with your PG/VG base. Maturation times can range from 48 hours to 2 weeks for certain flavors.

The different STEP (maturation) styles:

• The "classic" step, the most common, consists of placing your vial in a spot away from light and letting it rest for several days with the cap closed. This method can be improved by shaking your e-liquid for 1 to 2 minutes every day during maturation.
• The "thermal" step consists of heating the base to speed up the maturation time; indeed, heat will liquefy the contents of your DIY, which will facilitate the mixing of the different components. The bain-marie and the microwave are the most commonly used solutions by vapers practicing a thermal steep.

Be careful about the heating duration. Heating your DIY base for too long can alter the flavors and nicotine, and thus ruin your entire preparation. Our advice: for the bain-marie, the water should be hot but not boiling. Be attentive and remove the bottles from the water or heat source when the mixture is well fluid.

• The "breathing" step, which can be translated as "breathing," follows the same principle as the classic step, with the only difference being that the cap of the bottle is removed, allowing certain molecules to evaporate in order to obtain a quality e-liquid.

Be careful not to leave your bottle open for too long, as this will alter your product and oxidize the nicotine. Air, naturally charged with oxidants, seeps into the container and degrades both the nicotine and the base.

How long does a DIY e-liquid keep?
