Choosing the right 200 ml shortfill e-liquid

An e-liquid is a consumable intended exclusively for electronic cigarettes. The 200 ml format is sold nicotine-free and can be vaped as is at 0 mg/ml. To add nicotine, prepare the mix in a large graduated empty bottle, allowing you to dose boosters precisely. Its balanced 50/50 PG/VG ratio is suitable for most electronic cigarettes, for both MTL and RDL vaping.

Nicotine-free or boosted: which strength should you choose?

Adding boosters is optional: the 200 ml e-liquid can be vaped perfectly without nicotine. If you want nicotine, the number of boosters added determines the final strength:

Boosters added (10 ml at 20 mg/ml)Final volumeStrength obtainedContainerProfile
None200 ml0 mg/mlOriginal bottleNicotine-free vaping, flavour enjoyment
2 boosters220 ml≈ 2 mg/mlLarge graduated bottleVery low nicotine requirement
4 boosters240 ml≈ 3 mg/mlLarge graduated bottleOccasional smoker

The strengths obtained are rounded (exactly 1.8 and 3.3 mg/ml). A 250 ml bottle holds a maximum of four boosters, limiting this format to low strengths. For higher nicotine requirements, 50 ml and 10 ml formats or nicotine salts are more suitable.

How do you boost a 200 ml e-liquid?

1
Prepare a large bottle: get a clean, dry 250 ml graduated empty bottle.
2
Transfer the e-liquid: pour all 200 ml into the graduated bottle.
3
Add the boosters: two boosters to obtain around 2 mg/ml (220 ml), four boosters for around 3 mg/ml (240 ml). The graduations allow you to check the final volume.
4
Close, shake and leave to rest: shake vigorously for around thirty seconds, wait a few minutes before filling your tank and write the resulting strength on the bottle.

Which nicotine booster should you choose?

Le Vapoteur Discount boosters come in 10 ml bottles (strength stated on each product page). The nicotine type and base alter the throat sensation:

The 50/50 PG/VG ratio: a versatile balance

An e-liquid is made up of a propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG) base, flavourings and, where applicable, nicotine. PG carries flavours and throat hit, while VG provides smoothness and vapour volume. In equal proportions, the 50/50 ratio combines these two properties.

Suitable equipment Pods, MTL Pods, kits, MTL and RDL clearomisers Box mods, sub-ohm (DL)

Thanks to its fluidity, a 50/50 e-liquid properly saturates the coils of most clearomisers and pods, without being too thin for tight-draw models.

Which equipment for a 50/50 e-liquid?

50/50 is compatible with the vast majority of electronic cigarettes. Here are the most suitable equipment types and a few examples available from Le Vapoteur Discount:

Equipment Key points Examples
Electronic cigarettes Complete kits (battery + clearomiser), with simple or adjustable settings depending on the model. Q16 Pro Kit – Justfog
PockeX Pocket AIO Kit – Aspire
Coolfire Z80 Zenith 2 Kit – Innokin
Pods Compact format, refillable pods, use without complex settings. Luxe XR Max 2 Kit – Vaporesso
Kiwi 2 Kit – Kiwi Vapor
Pixo Max Kit – Aspire
Clearomisers Choose MTL or RDL models compatible with coils between 0.4 and 1.2 Ω. Zenith 2 – Innokin
Q16 Pro Plus – Justfog
GOZ+ – Innokin
Z Nano 3 – GeekVape

Recommended settings

The coil resistance and power determine the draw style. With a 200 ml 50/50 e-liquid, vaped at 0 to 3 mg/ml, the following guidelines provide stable vaping:

CoilDraw typeIndicative power
1.0 to 1.2 ΩMTL – tight draw, close to a cigarette10 to 18 W
0.6 to 0.9 ΩMTL to RDL – intermediate draw15 to 25 W
0.4 to 0.5 ΩRDL – semi-airy draw25 to 40 W

Always start at the bottom of the power range stated on the coil, then increase gradually. For the drip tip, a 510 mouthpiece is suitable for most uses; an 810 drip tip can be used for RDL on clearomisers designed for this format.

Maintaining your electronic cigarette

1
Prime every new coil: place a few drops of e-liquid onto the cotton, fill the tank and wait 5 to 10 minutes before first use.
2
Clean regularly the clearomiser or pod and the drip tip to prevent residue build-up.
3
Replace the coil as soon as flavours deteriorate or vapour decreases (on average every 1 to 3 weeks depending on use), and take the opportunity to clean the tank completely.
4
Close the bottle properly after every refill and keep it upright: a large format is used over several weeks.

Precautions for use and storage

  • If you do not smoke, do not vape.
  • Product prohibited for minors. E-liquid sold without nicotine: once a booster has been added, it contains nicotine and is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or people with cardiovascular disorders or high blood pressure.
  • Handle nicotine boosters with care; in the event of skin contact, rinse thoroughly with soap and water.
  • In case of allergy, check for possible allergens (limonene, linalool, etc.) stated on the label.
  • Keep your e-liquids closed, in a dry place away from light and temperature fluctuations, out of reach of children and animals.

Remember to recycle: dispose of empty bottles at suitable collection points.

FAQ

An e-liquid (or liquid for e-cigarettes) is the product that generates vapour when heated by the coil of an e-cigarette. Unlike traditional cigarettes, there is no combustion. The e-liquid is made up of a base (propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin), flavourings, and optionally nicotine. It determines the taste, the throat sensation, cloud production, and the overall vaping experience.

An e-liquid generally contains four elements:

  • propylene glycol (PG), which carries the flavours, enhances the throat hit and provides a sensation close to that of a cigarette;
  • vegetable glycerin (VG), responsible for the vapour and the density of the cloud;
  • the flavourings, which provide the taste (fruit, mint, classic tobacco, indulgent, ice…);
  • nicotine, optional, which helps manage cravings for vapers who are cutting down.

Some formulas also use alternative plant-based bases (Végétol) for extra smoothness.

An e-liquid with nicotine is intended for vapers who want to replace traditional cigarettes. Nicotine acts on the feeling of satisfaction and reduces cravings. Nicotine-free e-liquids are used either at the end of a cessation programme or purely for the pleasure of vaping, although it is not recommended to vape if you are not a smoker. Choosing the right nicotine level is essential to avoid a bad experience (throat irritation or cravings). The nicotine dosage depends on your previous cigarette consumption. A light smoker will not have the same needs as a heavy smoker. A level that is too low can lead to frustration and relapse, while a level that is too high can cause throat discomfort. The goal is to find a balance between hit, sensation and vaping comfort, adjusting gradually as needed. A low dosage of 0, 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine is generally recommended for light smokers or occasional smokers (fewer than 7 cigarettes per day), and a high dosage of 20 mg/ml nicotine salt for a heavy smoker (1 packet of cigarettes or more). However, this dosage can be adjusted depending on your e-cigarette and your vaping style.

Nicotine salt is a more stable form of nicotine that is smoother to inhale. It provides rapid absorption with a less harsh throat hit, even at high strengths. Nicotine salt e-liquids are particularly suited to beginner vapers, former heavy smokers, and low-wattage MTL kits. Various nicotine salt dosages are available. The most well-known and effective is 20 mg/ml, highly suited to heavy smokers. However, a 10 mg/ml dosage can work very well for a regular or occasional smoker.

A nicotine shot is a concentrated nicotine bottle designed to be added to a large-format e-liquid. It allows you to adjust the final nicotine level depending on the quantity added. Flexible and economical, this solution lets you boost your large-format e-liquid to 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine. For a 50 ml e-liquid, adding one nicotine shot will give you 3 mg/ml; adding two nicotine shots will turn your e-liquid into 6 mg/ml.

The propylene glycol / vegetable glycerin ratio has a strong influence on the vaping experience.

  • An e-liquid rich in propylene glycol or PG (70/30, 80/20) enhances the throat hit, flavour precision and a discreet vape. The e-liquid will be fluid and only compatible with MTL equipment with a tight draw to avoid leaks.
  • An e-liquid rich in vegetable glycerin or VG (30/70) produces more vapour and cloud, with a smoother, sweeter sensation. This thicker e-liquid will be compatible with sub-ohm or hookah-style e-cigarettes, producing large clouds of vapour at high power.

The choice therefore depends on the power and compatibility with your e-cigarette. If in doubt, the most common ratio remains 50/50 PG/VG. Balanced, it allows versatile use across MTL, RDL and light DTL e-cigarette models (approximately between 15 and 40 watts).

Plant-based or Végétol e-liquids replace traditional propylene glycol. They are often gentler on the throat, better tolerated by vapers who are sensitive to PG, and offer a smoother vape without compromising on flavour. However, they should be used in MTL mode at low power (minimum 30 watts) to avoid the risk of leaks and to preserve the quality of the product.

Yes, CBD e-liquids are designed for vaping and generally do not contain nicotine. They offer a different sensation, focused on relaxation, without any addictive effect. They should be used at moderate power to preserve the quality of the product. An MTL e-cigarette with a tight draw is recommended.

E-liquids are considered a far healthier alternative to smoked tobacco. They are formulated from ingredients certified as safe for health, unlike the 7,000 harmful substances found in traditional cigarettes. Nevertheless, to choose a safe e-liquid, a few precautions should be taken, such as buying your e-liquid from a recognised retailer like Le Vapoteur Discount or checking the composition and origin by favouring reputable and regulated brands.

An e-liquid manufactured in France meets strict requirements and European directives regarding traceability, quality control and safety. As a guarantee of quality and transparency for the consumer, French and European brands generally have their own laboratory for developing their e-liquid formula and are required to have this formulation assessed by an independent laboratory before going to market. All these steps ensure that e-liquids are safe for vapers. These French and European quality standards prohibit undesirable substances and provide a more secure framework for vaping.

To keep your e-liquid as long as possible and preserve its quality, taste and colour, it should be kept in its original bottle and ideally away from light, heat and air. Despite these precautions, the e-liquid may sometimes take on a slightly brown tint. Safe and suitable for use, this colour is caused by the oxidation of nicotine and may also depend on the flavouring used in the e-liquid. It is generally advisable not to keep the same e-liquid in your clearomiser or pod cartridge for more than 5 days if you are not using it, to avoid leaks and excessive oxidation.

The DLUO (Date Limite d'Utilisation Optimale) or BBD (Best Before Date) is an advisory date. Once the e-liquid's date has passed, it may lose its taste qualities and its appearance (colour, fluidity). A factory-fresh e-liquid will have a best before date of approximately 2 years. Even past its best before date, the e-liquid remains suitable for vaporisation and will not be harmful to health.
