It is a question asked by both new and experienced vapers: how long can a bottle of e-liquid last? The answer is simple… and complicated at the same time.
In reality, it depends on how you vape, the type of equipment you use, the nicotine strength you choose and, of course, the bottle size.
How long does a 10 ml bottle last?
The 10 ml format is the most common, particularly for nicotine e-liquids. How long it lasts varies according to several factors:
-
Vaping frequency: the more often you use your e-cigarette, the faster your bottle will empty.
-
Nicotine strength: a high strength (12 or 16 mg/ml, for example) provides a feeling of satisfaction more quickly, reducing the frequency of puffs. Conversely, a low strength (3 or 6 mg/ml) often encourages more regular vaping.
-
The type of e-cigarette:
-
With direct lung inhalation (DL) on a powerful sub-ohm model, e-liquid consumption is high. A 10 ml bottle at 3 mg may last only one day if you vape heavily.
-
With mouth-to-lung inhalation (MTL) using a small pod or slim e-cigarette, consumption is much lower. For example, 2 ml of 20 mg e-liquid in a pre-filled pod can last several days.
-
- The flavour of your e-liquid: how appealing the flavour is also greatly affects vaping frequency. Some people prefer vaping an tobacco-flavoured e-liquid rather than a fruity or mint flavour, or a flavourless Végétol e-liquid such as those in the Curieux natural e-liquid range.
Practical example: a DL vaper using 3 mg may consume 10 ml a day, i.e. a whole bottle, whereas an MTL vaper using an e-cigarette with a pre-filled cartridge at 20 mg may only need 2 ml.
Large formats: 50 ml, 100 ml and 200 ml
Large-format bottles are designed to last longer… but note that they are sold without nicotine (as required by the TPD), such as Medusa Juice e-liquids, which are available in 50, 100 and 200 ml sizes.
To add nicotine, you need to add nicotine boosters, generally up to a maximum of 6 mg/ml.
-
50 ml: with moderate use, it can last 1 to 2 weeks.
-
100 ml: between 2 and 4 weeks.
-
200 ml: for heavy users, it can last a month or more.
These formats are particularly economical if you consume a lot and prefer to make your own mixes.
How can you make your e-liquid last longer?
If you find your bottles are emptying at lightning speed, here are a few tips to optimise your consumption:
-
Switch to mouth-to-lung (MTL) vaping: a tight draw uses less power and therefore less e-liquid. A pod or a low-cost slim e-cigarette will save you plenty of millilitres.
-
Increase your nicotine strength (if suitable): more nicotine often means you can vape less frequently while avoiding cravings.
-
Use higher-ohm coils: they use less liquid than powerful sub-ohm coils.
-
Avoid “reflex” vaping: if you vape out of habit rather than need, you may increase your consumption without realising it.
- Change flavour : if you know a strawberry sweet flavour makes you vape more than you should, choose a fresh, classic or neutral flavour instead.
In summary:
How long a bottle of e-liquid lasts mainly depends on your device, nicotine strength and vaping habits. A 10 ml bottle can last from one day to several days, while a large format can last several weeks. Choosing a tight draw and a suitable nicotine strength is the best way to optimise your consumption.
