This is a question asked by both new vapers and more experienced ones: how long can a bottle of e-liquid last? The answer is simple… and complicated at the same time.
In reality, it depends on how you vape, the type of device you use, the nicotine level chosen, and of course, the bottle format.
The lifespan of a 10 ml bottle
The 10 ml format is the most common, particularly for nicotine e-liquids. Its lifespan varies depending on several parameters:
-
Vaping frequency: the more often you draw on your electronic cigarette, the faster your bottle will empty.
-
The nicotine level: a high level (12 or 16 mg/ml for example) provides a feeling of satisfaction more quickly, which reduces the frequency of puffs. Conversely, a low level (3 or 6 mg/ml) often encourages more frequent vaping.
-
The type of electronic cigarette:
-
With direct lung (DL) inhalation on a powerful sub-ohm device, e-liquid consumption is high. A 10 ml bottle at 3 mg may only last a day if you vape intensively.
-
With mouth-to-lung (MTL) inhalation using a small pod or a slim e-cigarette, consumption is much lower. For example, 2 ml of e-liquid at 20 mg in a pre-filled pod can last several days.
-
- The flavor of your e-liquid: the appeal of the flavor will also greatly affect the frequency of vaping. Some prefer to vape a tobacco-flavored e-liquid instead of a fruity or mint one, or a flavorless vegetol e-liquid like those from the Curieux natural e-liquid range.
Concrete example: a DL vaper at 3 mg may consume 10 ml per day, i.e. an entire bottle, while an MTL vaper with a pre-filled cartridge electronic cigarette at 20 mg may get by with just 2 ml.
Large formats: 50 ml, 100 ml and 200 ml
Large format bottles are designed to last longer… but be careful: they are sold without nicotine (as required by TPD regulations) like e-liquid Medusa Juice which offers volumes of 50, 100 and 200 ml.
To add nicotine, you need to add nicotine boosters, generally up to a maximum of 6 mg/ml.
-
50 ml: with moderate use, it can last 1 to 2 weeks.
-
100 ml: between 2 and 4 weeks.
-
200 ml: for heavy users, it can last a month or more.
These formats are particularly economical if you consume a lot and prefer to prepare your own mixes.
How to make your e-liquid last longer?
If you find that your bottles empty at lightning speed, here are a few tips to optimize your consumption:
-
Switch to mouth-to-lung (MTL) inhalation: a tighter draw uses less energy and therefore less e-liquid. A pod or a cheap slim electronic cigarette will save you many milliliters.
-
Increase the nicotine level (if appropriate): more nicotine often allows you to vape less frequently, while avoiding cravings.
-
Use higher ohm coils: they consume less liquid than powerful sub-ohm coils.
-
Avoid "reflex" vaping: if you vape out of habit rather than need, you risk increasing your consumption without realizing it.
- Change flavor: if you know that strawberry candy can make you vape more than you should, opt for a fresh, classic or neutral flavor instead.
In summary:
How long a bottle of e-liquid lasts depends mainly on your device, your nicotine level and your vaping habits. A 10 ml bottle can last from one day to several days, while a large format can last several weeks. Adopting a tight draw and an appropriate nicotine level is the best way to optimize your consumption.
