Choosing the right 100 ml shortfill e-liquid

An e-liquid is a consumable intended exclusively for electronic cigarettes. The 100 ml format is sold nicotine-free, generally in a 120 ml bottle designed to hold up to two boosters. It can be vaped as it is at 0 mg/ml or topped up with one or two nicotine boosters. For a higher strength, the mixture should be prepared in a large graduated empty bottle. Its balanced 50/50 PG/VG ratio is suitable for most electronic cigarettes, for both MTL and RDL vaping.

Nicotine-free or boosted: which strength should you choose?

Adding a booster is optional: 100 ml e-liquid can be vaped perfectly well without nicotine. If you want nicotine, the number of boosters added determines the final strength:

Boosters added (10 ml at 20 mg/ml)Final volumeStrength obtainedContainerProfile
None100 ml0 mg/mlOriginal bottleNicotine-free vaping, enjoyment of flavours
1 booster110 ml≈ 2 mg/mlOriginal bottleVery low nicotine requirement
2 boosters120 ml≈ 3 mg/mlOriginal bottleOccasional smoker
3 boosters130 ml≈ 4.5 mg/mlLarge graduated bottleOccasional to moderate smoker
4 boosters140 ml≈ 6 mg/mlLarge graduated bottleModerate smoker

The resulting strengths are rounded (exactly 1.8, 3.3, 4.6 and 5.7 mg/ml). The original 120 ml bottle can hold a maximum of two boosters: from three onwards, the mixture must be transferred to a large bottle. For a nicotine requirement above 6 mg/ml, the 10 ml format or nicotine salts are more suitable.

How do you boost a 100 ml e-liquid?

Up to 3 mg/ml, in the original bottle:

1
Open the bottle: remove the dropper tip from the 120 ml bottle (it usually clips off with a fingernail or the supplied tip opener).
2
Pour in the booster(s): add one booster to obtain approximately 2 mg/ml, or two boosters for approximately 3 mg/ml.
3
Close and shake: replace the tip, screw the cap back on and shake vigorously for around thirty seconds to blend the mixture.
4
Leave to rest for a few minutes before filling your tank. Remember to note the resulting strength on the bottle.

For approximately 4.5 or 6 mg/ml, in a large graduated bottle:

A
Transfer the e-liquid: pour all 100 ml into a 250 ml graduated empty bottle.
B
Add the boosters: three boosters for approximately 4.5 mg/ml (130 ml), four boosters for approximately 6 mg/ml (140 ml). The graduations allow you to check the resulting volume.
C
Close, shake and leave to rest for a few minutes, then note the resulting strength on the bottle.

Which nicotine booster should you choose?

Le Vapoteur Discount boosters come in 10 ml bottles (strength shown on each product page). The nicotine type and base change the throat sensation:

The 50/50 PG/VG ratio: a versatile balance

An e-liquid is made up of a propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG) base, flavourings and, depending on the product, nicotine. PG carries the flavours and throat hit, while VG provides smoothness and vapour volume. In equal parts, the 50/50 ratio combines these two properties.

Suitable equipment Pods, MTL Pods, kits, MTL and RDL clearomisers Mods, sub-ohm (DL)

Thanks to its fluidity, a 50/50 e-liquid properly saturates the coils in most clearomisers and pods, without being too thin for tight-draw models.

What equipment should you use with a 50/50 e-liquid?

50/50 is compatible with the vast majority of electronic cigarettes. Here are the most suitable equipment families and a few examples available from Le Vapoteur Discount:

Equipment Key points Examples
Electronic cigarettes Complete kits (battery + clearomiser), with simple or adjustable settings depending on the model. Kit Q16 Pro – Justfog
Kit PockeX Pocket AIO – Aspire
Kit Coolfire Z80 Zenith 2 – Innokin
Pods Compact format, refillable pods, use without complex settings. Kit Luxe XR Max 2 – Vaporesso
Kit Kiwi 2 – Kiwi Vapor
Kit Pixo Max – Aspire
Clearomisers Choose MTL or RDL models compatible with 0.4 to 1.2 Ω coils. Zenith 2 – Innokin
Q16 Pro Plus – Justfog
GOZ+ – Innokin
Z Nano 3 – GeekVape

Recommended settings

The coil resistance and power determine the draw type. With a 100 ml 50/50 e-liquid vaped at 0 to 6 mg/ml, the following guidelines provide stable vaping:

CoilDraw typeSuggested power
1.0 to 1.2 ΩMTL – tight draw, close to a cigarette10 to 18 W
0.6 to 0.9 ΩMTL to RDL – intermediate draw15 to 25 W
0.4 to 0.5 ΩRDL – semi-airy draw25 to 40 W

Always start at the bottom of the power range shown on the coil, then increase gradually. For the drip tip, a 510 tip is suitable for most uses; an 810 drip tip can be used for RDL vaping on clearomisers designed for this format.

How to maintain your electronic cigarette

1
Prime every new coil: place a few drops of e-liquid onto the cotton, fill the tank, then wait 5 to 10 minutes before first use.
2
Clean regularly the clearomiser or pod and the drip tip to prevent residue build-up.
3
Replace the coil as soon as flavours deteriorate or vapour decreases (on average every 1 to 3 weeks depending on usage), taking the opportunity to clean the tank thoroughly.
4
Close the bottle securely after each refill and keep it upright: a large format is used over several weeks.

Use and storage precautions

  • If you do not smoke, do not vape.
  • Product prohibited for minors. E-liquid sold nicotine-free: once a booster is added, it contains nicotine and is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or people with cardiovascular disorders or high blood pressure.
  • Handle nicotine boosters with care; in the event of skin contact, rinse thoroughly with soap and water.
  • In the event of an allergy, check for any allergens (limonene, linalool, etc.) listed on the label.
  • Store your e-liquids closed, in a dry place away from light and temperature changes, out of the reach of children and animals.

Remember to recycle: empty bottles should be taken to suitable collection points.

FAQ

An e-liquid (or electronic cigarette liquid) is the product that generates vapour when heated by the coil of an electronic cigarette. Unlike traditional cigarettes, there is no combustion. The e-liquid is composed of a base (propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine), flavourings, and optionally nicotine. It determines the taste, the throat hit, the cloud production, and the overall vaping experience.

An e-liquid generally contains four ingredients:
  • propylene glycol (PG), which carries the flavourings, enhances the throat hit and provides a sensation close to that of a cigarette ;
  • vegetable glycerin (VG), responsible for the vapour and the density of the cloud ;
  • the flavourings, which give the taste (fruit, mint, classic tobacco, dessert, ice…) ;
  • nicotine, optional, which helps manage cravings for vapers who are quitting smoking.
Some formulas also use alternative plant-based bases (Végétol) for a smoother experience.

An e-liquid with nicotine is intended for vapers who wish to replace traditional cigarettes. Nicotine acts on the feeling of satisfaction and limits cravings. E-liquids without nicotine are used either at the end of a quit-smoking programme, or purely for the pleasure of vaping, although it is not recommended to vape if you are not a smoker. Choosing the right nicotine level is essential to avoid a bad experience (irritation or cravings). The nicotine dosage depends on your previous cigarette consumption. A light smoker will not have the same needs as a heavy smoker. A level that is too low can lead to frustration and relapse, while a level that is too high can cause throat discomfort. The goal is to find a balance between throat hit, sensation and vaping comfort, adjusting gradually as needed. We generally recommend a low dosage of 0, 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine for light smokers or occasional smokers (fewer than 7 cigarettes per day), and a high dosage of 20 mg/ml of nicotine salt for heavy smokers (1 packet of cigarettes or more). However, this dosage can be adjusted depending on your e-cigarette and your vaping style.

Nicotine salt is a more stable form of nicotine that is gentler on inhalation. It provides fast absorption, with a less harsh throat hit, even at high concentrations. Nicotine salt e-liquids are particularly suited to beginner vapers, former heavy smokers, and low-wattage MTL kits. There are different nicotine salt dosages. The best known and most effective is 20 mg/ml, which is well suited to heavy smokers. However, a 10 mg/ml dosage can work very well for a regular or occasional smoker.

A nicotine booster is a concentrated nicotine bottle, designed to be added to a large-format e-liquid. It allows you to adjust the final nicotine level depending on the amount added. Flexible and cost-effective, this solution lets you boost your large-format e-liquid to 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine. For a 50 ml e-liquid, adding one nicotine booster will give you 3 mg/ml, while two nicotine boosters will turn your e-liquid into 6 mg/ml.

The propylene glycol / vegetable glycerin ratio strongly influences the vape.
  • An e-liquid rich in propylene glycol or PG (70/30, 80/20) enhances the throat hit, flavour precision and a discreet vape. The e-liquid will be thin and compatible only with MTL equipment with a tight draw to avoid leaks.
  • An e-liquid rich in vegetable glycerin or VG (30/70) produces more vapour and clouds, with a smoother, sweeter sensation. This thicker e-liquid will be compatible with sub-ohm or shisha-type electronic cigarettes, producing large clouds of vapour at high wattage.
The choice therefore depends on the wattage and compatibility with your electronic cigarette. If in doubt, the most common ratio remains 50/50 PG/VG. Balanced, it allows versatile use on MTL, RDL and light DTL electronic cigarette models (between approximately 15 and 40 watts).

E-liquids with a vegetable base or with Végétol replace traditional propylene glycol. They are often gentler on the throat, better tolerated by some vapers who are sensitive to PG, and offer a smoother vape without compromising on flavour. However, they should be used in MTL with a low wattage (minimum 30 watts) to avoid the risk of leaking and to preserve the quality of the product.

Yes, CBD e-liquids are designed for vaping and generally do not contain nicotine. They offer a different sensation, focused on relaxation, without any addictive effect. They should be used at moderate wattage to preserve the quality of the product. A mouth-to-lung (MTL) vape with a tight draw is recommended.

E-liquids are considered a much healthier alternative to smoked tobacco. They are formulated from ingredients certified as safe for health, unlike the 7,000 harmful substances found in traditional cigarettes. Nevertheless, to choose a safe e-liquid, a few precautions should be taken, such as buying your e-liquid from a recognised retailer like Le Vapoteur Discount or checking the composition and origin by favouring reputable and regulated brands.

An e-liquid manufactured in France meets strict requirements and European directives regarding traceability, control and safety. As a guarantee of quality and transparency for the consumer, French and European brands generally have their own laboratory for developing their e-liquid formula and are required to have this formulation studied by an independent laboratory before it goes to market. All these steps ensure that e-liquids are safe for vapers. These French and European quality standards prohibit undesirable substances and provide a more secure framework for vaping.

To preserve your e-liquid for as long as possible and maintain its quality, taste and colour, keep it in its original bottle and ideally away from light, heat and air. Despite these precautions, it can happen that the e-liquid takes on a slightly brown tint. Safe and suitable for consumption, this colour is due to the oxidation of nicotine and can also depend on the flavouring used in the e-liquid. It is generally recommended not to keep the same e-liquid for more than 5 days in your clearomiser or pod cartridge if you are not using it, to avoid leaks and excessive oxidation.

The DLUO (Date Limite d'Utilisation Optimale) or BBD (Best Before Date) is an indicative date. Once the e-liquid's date has passed, it may lose its taste qualities and its appearance (colour, fluidity). An e-liquid fresh from the factory will have a BBD of approximately 2 years. Even past the BBD, the e-liquid remains suitable for vaping and will not be harmful to health.
