Choosing the right 200 ml shortfill e-liquid

An e-liquid is a consumable intended exclusively for electronic cigarettes. The 200 ml format is sold nicotine-free and can be vaped as is at 0 mg/ml. To add nicotine, prepare the mixture in a large graduated empty bottle, allowing boosters to be measured precisely. Its balanced 50/50 PG/VG ratio is suitable for most electronic cigarettes, for both MTL and RDL vaping.

Nicotine-free or boosted: which strength should you choose?

Adding boosters is optional: 200 ml e-liquid can be vaped perfectly well without nicotine. If you want nicotine, the number of boosters added determines the final strength:

Boosters added (10 ml at 20 mg/ml)Final volumeStrength obtainedContainerProfile
None200 ml0 mg/mlOriginal bottleNicotine-free vaping, flavour enjoyment
2 boosters220 ml≈ 2 mg/mlLarge graduated bottleVery low nicotine requirement
4 boosters240 ml≈ 3 mg/mlLarge graduated bottleOccasional smoker

The resulting strengths are rounded (exactly 1.8 and 3.3 mg/ml). A 250 ml bottle holds a maximum of four boosters, limiting this format to low strengths. For higher nicotine requirements, 50 ml and 10 ml formats or nicotine salts are more suitable.

How do you boost a 200 ml e-liquid?

1
Prepare a large bottle: use a clean, dry 250 ml graduated empty bottle.
2
Decant the e-liquid: pour all 200 ml into the graduated bottle.
3
Add the boosters: two boosters for approximately 2 mg/ml (220 ml), four boosters for approximately 3 mg/ml (240 ml). The graduations allow you to check the final volume.
4
Close, shake and leave to rest: shake vigorously for around thirty seconds, wait a few minutes before filling your tank and note the resulting strength on the bottle.

Which nicotine booster should you choose?

Le Vapoteur Discount boosters come in 10 ml bottles (the dosage is shown on each product page). The nicotine type and base change the throat sensation:

The 50/50 PG/VG ratio: a versatile balance

An e-liquid consists of a base of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG), flavourings and, where applicable, nicotine. PG carries flavours and provides the throat hit, while VG adds smoothness and vapour volume. In equal proportions, the 50/50 ratio combines these two properties.

Suitable equipment Pods, MTL Pods, kits, MTL and RDL clearomisers Box mods, sub-ohm (DL)

Thanks to its fluidity, a 50/50 e-liquid wicks properly in the coils of most clearomisers and pods, without being too thin for tight-draw models.

Which equipment for a 50/50 e-liquid?

50/50 is compatible with the vast majority of electronic cigarettes. Here are the most suitable equipment families and a few examples available from Le Vapoteur Discount:

Equipment Key points Examples

Recommended settings

The coil resistance and wattage determine the vaping style. With a 50/50 200 ml e-liquid vaped at 0 to 3 mg/ml, the following guidelines provide stable vaping:

CoilVaping styleSuggested wattage
1.0 to 1.2 ΩMTL – tight draw, close to a cigarette10 to 18 W
0.6 to 0.9 ΩMTL to RDL – intermediate draw15 to 25 W
0.4 to 0.5 ΩRDL – semi-airy draw25 to 40 W

Always start at the lower end of the wattage range stated on the coil, then increase gradually. For the drip tip, a 510 mouthpiece is suitable for most uses; an 810 drip tip can be used for RDL vaping on clearomisers designed for this format.

Looking after your electronic cigarette

1
Prime every new coil: place a few drops of e-liquid onto the cotton, fill the tank, then wait 5 to 10 minutes before first use.
2
Clean regularly the clearomiser or pod and the drip tip to prevent residue build-up.
3
Replace the coil as soon as flavours deteriorate or vapour decreases (on average every 1 to 3 weeks depending on use), taking the opportunity to clean the tank thoroughly.
4
Close the bottle securely after every refill and store it upright: a large format is used over several weeks.

Usage and storage precautions

  • If you do not smoke, do not vape.
  • Product prohibited for minors. E-liquid sold without nicotine: once a booster has been added, it contains nicotine and is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, or people suffering from cardiovascular disorders or high blood pressure.
  • Handle nicotine boosters with care; in case of skin contact, rinse thoroughly with soap and water.
  • In case of allergies, check for possible allergens (limonene, linalool, etc.) stated on the label.
  • Keep your e-liquids closed, in a dry place away from light and temperature fluctuations, out of the reach of children and animals.

Remember to recycle: empty bottles should be taken to suitable collection points.

FAQ

An e-liquid (or electronic cigarette liquid) is the product that generates vapour when heated by the coil of an electronic cigarette. Unlike traditional cigarettes, there is no combustion. The e-liquid is made up of a base (propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine), flavourings, and optionally nicotine. It determines the taste, throat sensation, cloud production, and overall vaping experience.

An e-liquid generally contains four elements:

  • propylene glycol (PG), which carries the flavours, enhances the throat hit and provides a sensation close to that of a cigarette;
  • vegetable glycerin (VG), responsible for the vapour and cloud density;
  • flavourings, which provide the taste (fruit, mint, classic blonde, dessert, ice…);
  • nicotine, which is optional, and helps manage cravings for vapers who are cutting down.

Some formulas also use alternative vegetable bases (Végétol) for extra smoothness.

An e-liquid with nicotine is intended for vapers who wish to replace traditional cigarettes. Nicotine acts on the sensation of satisfaction and limits cravings. Nicotine-free e-liquids are used either at the end of a cessation programme, or purely for the pleasure of vaping, even though it is not recommended to vape if you are not a smoker. Choosing the right nicotine level is essential to avoid a poor experience (irritation or cravings). The nicotine dosage depends on your previous cigarette consumption. A light smoker will not have the same needs as a heavy smoker. Too low a level can lead to frustration and relapse, while too high a level can cause throat discomfort. The goal is to find a balance between throat hit, sensation and vaping comfort, adjusting gradually as needed. A low dosage of 0, 3 or 6 mg/ml nicotine is generally recommended for light smokers or occasional smokers (fewer than 7 cigarettes per day), and a high dosage of 20 mg/ml nicotine salt for a heavy smoker (1 pack of cigarettes or more). However, this dosage can be adjusted according to your e-cigarette and your vaping style.

Nicotine salt is a more stable form of nicotine that is gentler on inhalation. It provides rapid absorption with a less aggressive throat hit, even at high levels. Nicotine salt e-liquids are particularly well suited to beginner vapers, former heavy smokers and low-wattage MTL kits. Various nicotine salt dosages are available. The best known and most effective is 20 mg/ml, which is very well suited to heavy smokers. However, a dosage of 10 mg/ml may be perfectly suitable for a regular or occasional smoker.

A nicotine booster is a nicotine-concentrated bottle, designed to be added to a large-format e-liquid. It allows you to adjust the final nicotine level according to the quantity added. Flexible and economical, this solution allows you to boost your large-format e-liquid to 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine. For a 50 ml e-liquid, adding one nicotine booster will give you 3 mg/ml, while two nicotine boosters will transform your e-liquid into 6 mg/ml.

The propylene glycol / vegetable glycerin ratio strongly influences the vaping experience.

  • An e-liquid rich in propylene glycol or PG (70/30, 80/20) enhances throat hit, flavour precision and a discreet vape. The e-liquid will be fluid and only compatible with MTL equipment with a tight draw to avoid leaks.
  • An e-liquid rich in vegetable glycerin or VG (30/70) produces more vapour and cloud, with a softer, sweeter sensation. This thicker e-liquid is compatible with sub-ohm or shisha-type e-cigarettes, producing large clouds of vapour at high wattage.

The choice therefore depends on the wattage and compatibility with your e-cigarette. If in doubt, the most common ratio remains 50/50 PG/VG. Balanced, it allows versatile use across MTL, RDL and light DTL e-cigarette models (approximately between 15 and 40 watts).

E-liquids with a vegetable base or containing Végétol replace traditional propylene glycol. They are often gentler on the throat, better tolerated by vapers who are sensitive to PG, and offer a smoother vape without compromising on flavour. However, they should be used in MTL at low wattage (minimum 30 watts) to avoid the risk of leaks and to preserve the quality of the product.

Yes, CBD e-liquids are designed for vaping and generally contain no nicotine. They offer a different sensation, focused on relaxation, without any addictive effect. They should be used at moderate wattage to preserve the quality of the product. A tight-draw MTL e-cigarette is recommended for use with them.

E-liquids are considered a far healthier alternative to smoked tobacco. They are formulated from ingredients certified as safe for health, unlike the 7,000 harmful substances found in traditional cigarettes. Nevertheless, to choose a safe e-liquid, a few precautions should be taken, such as purchasing your e-liquid from a recognised retailer like Le Vapoteur Discount, or checking the composition and origin by favouring reputable and regulated brands.

An e-liquid manufactured in France meets strict requirements and European directives in terms of traceability, control and safety. As a guarantee of quality and transparency for the consumer, French and European brands generally have their own laboratory for developing their e-liquid formula and are required to have that formulation assessed by an independent laboratory before bringing it to market. All of these steps ensure that e-liquids are safe for vapers. These French and European quality standards prohibit undesirable substances and provide a more secure framework for vaping.

To keep your e-liquid for as long as possible and preserve its quality, taste and colour, you should keep it in its original bottle and ideally away from light, heat and air. Despite these precautions, the e-liquid may sometimes take on a slightly brown tint. Safe and fit for consumption, this colour is caused by the oxidation of nicotine and may also depend on the flavouring used in the e-liquid. It is generally recommended not to keep the same e-liquid for more than 5 days in your clearomiser or pod cartridge if you are not using it, to avoid leaks and excessive oxidation.

The DLUO (Best Before Date) or BBD (Best Before Date) is an indicative date. Once the e-liquid's date has passed, it may lose its taste qualities and appearance (colour, fluidity). An e-liquid fresh from the factory will have a BBD of approximately 2 years. Even past the BBD, the e-liquid remains fit for vaporisation and will not be harmful to health.
