Choosing the right 30/70 PG/VG 50 ml shortfill e-liquid

An e-liquid is a consumable intended exclusively for an e-cigarette. The 50 ml format is sold nicotine-free, in a bottle designed to hold up to two boosters. It can be vaped as is at 0 mg/ml or topped up with one or two nicotine boosters. Rich in vegetable glycerine, it is thicker, gentler on the throat and produces dense vapour, for direct or restricted direct-to-lung vaping on sub-ohm equipment.

Nicotine-free or boosted: which strength should you choose?

Adding a booster is optional: 50 ml e-liquid can be vaped perfectly well without nicotine. With direct-to-lung vaping, nicotine is felt more strongly than with MTL: for a 30/70 e-liquid, lower strengths are recommended.

Boosters added (10 ml at 20 mg/ml) Final volume Resulting strength Profile
None 50 ml 0 mg/ml Nicotine-free vaping, flavour enjoyment
1 booster 60 ml ≈ 3 mg/ml Occasional to moderate smoker, DL vaping
2 boosters 70 ml ≈ 6 mg/ml Regular smoker, RDL vaping

The resulting strengths are rounded (exactly 3,3 and 5,7 mg/ml). With DL vaping on coils below 0,4 Ω, 6 mg/ml quickly becomes irritating: one booster is generally sufficient. If you need more than 6 mg/ml nicotine, the 10 ml format or nicotine salts are more suitable.

How do you boost a 50 ml e-liquid?

1
Open the bottle: remove the dropper nozzle from the 50 ml bottle (it usually pops off using a fingernail or the supplied nozzle remover).
2
Pour in the booster(s): add one booster to obtain approximately 3 mg/ml, or two boosters for approximately 6 mg/ml.
3
Close and shake: replace the nozzle, screw the cap back on and shake vigorously for around thirty seconds to homogenise the mixture.
4
Leave to rest for a few minutes before filling your tank. Remember to note the resulting strength on the bottle.

For a higher strength or a customised recipe, use a larger empty bottle, available in the DIY accessories.

Which nicotine shot should you choose?

Le Vapoteur Discount boosters come in 10 ml bottles (strength indicated on each product page). The type of nicotine and the base affect the throat sensation. With a 30/70 e-liquid, a 50/50 booster or one with nicotine salts maintains smoothness; with two 50/50 boosters, the blend becomes approximately 35/65.

Booster Sensation Who is it for?
50/50 nicotine booster Classic throat hit, neutral flavour The standard choice, compatible with all ratios
70/30 nicotine booster Stronger throat hit, enhanced flavours MTL vaping, for those seeking a sensation close to a cigarette
Cool 50/50 nicotine booster Classic throat hit with a touch of freshness Fans of fresh fruity or menthol flavours
Nicotine salt booster Very smooth throat hit Vapers sensitive to throat hit or looking for smoothness
Cool nicotine salt booster Smooth and cool throat hit The smoothness of salts with a cool note
Hybrid nicotine booster Balance between throat hit and smoothness A compromise between classic nicotine and nicotine salts

The 30/70 PG/VG ratio: dense vapour and a smooth throat sensation

An e-liquid is made up of a base of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG), flavourings and, in some cases, nicotine. PG carries the flavours and throat hit, while VG adds smoothness and vapour volume. With 70% VG, this ratio prioritises vapour density and a smooth throat sensation.

Suitable equipment Pods, MTL clearomisers Pods, kits, MTL and RDL clearomisers Mods, sub-ohm clearomisers (DL)

More viscous, a 30/70 e-liquid requires coils with large e-liquid inlet ports. In a pod or MTL clearomiser, it does not wick the cotton properly and can cause dry hits (burnt taste).

What equipment should you use with a 30/70 e-liquid?

30/70 performs at its best with sub-ohm equipment, capable of delivering power and feeding the coil correctly. Here are the most suitable equipment types and some examples available from Le Vapoteur Discount:

Equipment Key points Examples
Box mod Powerful battery-powered kits fitted with a sub-ohm clearomiser. Kit Aegis Legend 5 – GeekVape
Kit Gen Max – Vaporesso
Kit Armour Max 220 W iTank T – Vaporesso
Pods Powerful pod mods compatible with sub-ohm coils. Kit Luxe XR Max 2 – Vaporesso
Kit Drag X3 – Voopoo
Pod Drag X2 – Voopoo
Clearomisers Choose sub-ohm models compatible with coils from 0.15 to 0.6 Ω. iTank T Dual Mesh – Vaporesso
Z SubOhm 5 – GeekVape
UForce-X – Voopoo

Recommended settings

The coil resistance value and power determine the type of draw. With a 30/70 e-liquid, higher power is needed to vaporise VG effectively:

Coil Type of draw Recommended power Suitable nicotine strength
0.4 to 0.6 Ω RDL – semi-airy draw 25 to 40 W 3 to 6 mg/ml
0.2 to 0.4 Ω DL – airy draw 40 to 70 W 0 to 3 mg/ml
0.15 to 0.2 Ω DL – very airy draw 60 to 90 W 0 to 3 mg/ml

Always follow the power range stated on the coil and start at the lower end of that range. For the drip tip, a wide 810 mouthpiece makes direct inhalation easier and allows a high volume of vapour through.

How to maintain your e-cigarette

1
Prime every new coil: as it is thicker, 30/70 takes longer to soak into the cotton. Place a few drops onto the coil, fill the tank, then wait 10 minutes before first use.
2
Increase the power gradually with a new coil to avoid dry hits and preserve the cotton.
3
Replace the coil as soon as flavours deteriorate or vapour decreases: VG clogs coils more quickly (on average every 1 to 2 weeks, depending on use). Take the opportunity to thoroughly clean the tank and drip tip.
4
Close the bottle tightly after each refill and store it upright: a large format is used over several weeks.

Usage and storage precautions

  • If you do not smoke, do not vape.
  • Product prohibited for minors. E-liquid sold without nicotine: once a booster is added, it contains nicotine and is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or people with cardiovascular disorders or high blood pressure.
  • Handle nicotine boosters with care; in case of skin contact, rinse thoroughly with soap and water.
  • In case of allergy, check for the possible presence of allergens (limonene, linalool, etc.) listed on the label.
  • Keep your e-liquids closed, in a dry place, away from light and temperature fluctuations, out of reach of children and animals.

Remember to recycle: empty bottles should be taken to suitable collection points.

FAQ

An e-liquid (or liquid for electronic cigarette) is the product that generates vapour when heated by the coil of an electronic cigarette. Unlike traditional cigarettes, there is no combustion. The e-liquid is composed of a base (propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine), flavourings, and optionally nicotine. It determines the taste, the throat hit, the cloud production, and the overall vaping experience.

An e-liquid generally contains four elements:

  • propylene glycol (PG), which carries the flavourings, enhances the throat hit and provides a sensation close to that of a cigarette;
  • vegetable glycerine (VG), responsible for the vapour and cloud density;
  • the flavourings, which give the taste (fruit, mint, classic tobacco, dessert, ice…);
  • nicotine, optional, which helps manage cravings for vapers who are quitting smoking.

Some formulas also use alternative vegetable bases (Végétol) for a smoother experience.

An e-liquid with nicotine is intended for vapers who wish to replace traditional cigarettes. Nicotine acts on the feeling of satisfaction and limits cravings. E-liquids without nicotine are used either at the end of a cessation programme, or purely for the pleasure of vaping, although it is not recommended to vape if you are not a smoker. Choosing the right nicotine level is essential to avoid a poor experience (throat irritation or cravings). The nicotine dosage depends on your previous cigarette consumption. A light smoker will not have the same needs as a heavy smoker. A level that is too low can lead to frustration and relapse, while a level that is too high can cause throat discomfort. The aim is to find a balance between throat hit, sensation, and vaping comfort, adjusting gradually as needed. We generally recommend a low dosage of 0, 3, or 6 mg/ml of nicotine for light smokers or occasional smokers (fewer than 7 cigarettes per day), and a high dosage of 20 mg/ml of nicotine salt for a heavy smoker (1 packet of cigarettes or more). However, this dosage can be adjusted depending on your e-cigarette and your vaping style.

Nicotine salt is a more stable form of nicotine that is smoother to inhale. It provides rapid absorption, with a less harsh throat hit, even at high strengths. Nicotine salt e-liquids are particularly suited to beginner vapers, former heavy smokers, and low-wattage MTL kits. There are various nicotine salt strengths available. The most well-known and effective being 20 mg/ml, which is very suitable for heavy smokers. However, a 10 mg/ml strength can work very well for a regular or occasional smoker.

A nicotine booster is a nicotine-concentrated bottle designed to be added to a large-format e-liquid. It allows you to adjust the final nicotine level according to the quantity added. Flexible and cost-effective, this solution allows you to boost your large-format e-liquid to 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine. For a 50 ml e-liquid, adding one nicotine booster will achieve 3 mg/ml, while two nicotine boosters will turn your e-liquid into 6 mg/ml.

The propylene glycol / vegetable glycerine ratio strongly influences the vape.

  • An e-liquid rich in propylene glycol or PG (70/30, 80/20) enhances the throat hit, flavour precision and a discreet vape. The e-liquid will be fluid and compatible only with MTL equipment with a tight draw to avoid leaks.
  • An e-liquid rich in vegetable glycerine or VG (30/70) produces more vapour and clouds, with a softer, sweeter sensation. This thicker e-liquid will be compatible with sub-ohm or shisha-type e-cigarettes, producing large vapour clouds at high power.

The choice therefore depends on the power and compatibility with your e-cigarette. If in doubt, the most common ratio remains 50/50 PG/VG. Balanced, it allows versatile use on MTL, RDL and light DTL e-cigarette models (between approximately 15 and 40 watts).

E-liquids with a vegetable base or Végétol replace traditional propylene glycol. They are often gentler on the throat, better tolerated by vapers who are sensitive to PG, and offer a smoother vape without compromising on flavour. However, they should be used in MTL with a low wattage (minimum 30 watts) to avoid the risk of leaks and preserve the quality of the product.

Yes, CBD e-liquids are designed for vaping and generally do not contain nicotine. They offer a different sensation, focused on relaxation, with no addictive effect. They should be used at moderate wattage to preserve the quality of the product. A tight-draw MTL e-cigarette is recommended for use with them.

E-liquids are considered a much healthier alternative to smoked tobacco. They are formulated from ingredients certified as safe for health, unlike the 7,000 harmful substances found in traditional cigarettes. Nevertheless, to choose a safe e-liquid, a few precautions should be taken, such as purchasing your e-liquid from a recognised retailer like Le Vapoteur Discount, or checking the composition and origin by favouring reputable and regulated brands.

An e-liquid manufactured in France meets strict requirements and European directives regarding traceability, control and safety. As a guarantee of quality and transparency for the consumer, French and European brands generally have their own laboratory for developing their e-liquid formula and are obliged to have this formulation studied by an independent laboratory before it is placed on the market. All these steps ensure that e-liquids are safe for vapers. These French and European quality standards prohibit undesirable substances and provide a more secure framework for vaping.

To preserve your e-liquid for as long as possible and maintain its quality, taste and colour, you should keep it in its original bottle and ideally away from light, heat and air. Despite these precautions, it can happen that the e-liquid takes on a slightly brown tint. Safe and suitable for consumption, this colour is due to the oxidation of nicotine and may also depend on the flavouring used in the e-liquid. It is generally recommended not to keep the same e-liquid for more than 5 days in your clearomiser or pod cartridge if you are not using it, to avoid leaks and excessive oxidation.

The DLUO (Date Limite d'Utilisation Optimale) or BBD (Best Before Date) is an indicative date. Once the e-liquid's date has passed, it may lose its taste qualities and appearance (colour, fluidity). An e-liquid fresh from the factory will have a BBD of around 2 years. Even past its BBD, the e-liquid remains suitable for vaping and will not be harmful to health.
