An e-liquid (or liquid for an e-cigarette) is the product that creates vapour when heated by an e-cigarette's coil. Unlike traditional cigarettes, there is no combustion. E-liquid consists of a base (propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine), flavourings and, optionally, nicotine. It determines the flavour, throat sensation, size of the vapour cloud and overall vaping experience.

An e-liquid generally contains four components:

• propylene glycol (PG), which carries the flavours, enhances the throat hit and provides a sensation similar to smoking a cigarette;
• vegetable glycerine (VG), which produces vapour and determines the density of the cloud;
• flavourings, which provide the taste (fruit, mint, classic tobacco, dessert, ice…);

Some formulas also use alternative plant-based bases (Végétol) for a smoother vape.

An e-liquid with nicotine is intended for vapers looking to replace traditional cigarettes. Nicotine helps provide a feeling of satisfaction and reduces cravings. Nicotine-free e-liquids are used either towards the end of the quitting process or simply for the enjoyment of vaping, although vaping is not recommended if you do not smoke. • An e-liquid high in propylene glycol, or PG (70/30, 80/20), enhances the throat hit and flavour clarity while producing less visible vapour. The e-liquid is thin and should only be used with tight-draw MTL devices to avoid leaks.
• An e-liquid high in vegetable glycerine, or VG (30/70), produces more vapour and larger clouds, with a smoother, sweeter sensation. This thicker e-liquid is compatible with sub-ohm or shisha-style e-cigarettes, which produce large clouds of vapour at high power.

The right choice therefore depends on your e-cigarette's power and compatibility. If in doubt, the most common ratio is 50/50 PG/VG. This balanced blend is versatile and can be used with MTL, RDL and lower-powered DTL e-cigarettes (approximately 15 to 40 watts).

E-liquids with a plant-based base or Végétol replace traditional propylene glycol. They are often gentler on the throat, better tolerated by some vapers who are sensitive to PG, and offer a smoother vape without compromising flavour. However, they should be used with MTL devices at low power (at least 30 watts) to avoid leaks and preserve product quality.

E-liquid fresh from the factory has a minimum durability date of around two years. Even after that date, the e-liquid remains suitable for vaping and will not be harmful to health.
