Choosing the right 100 ml shortfill e-liquid in 30/70 PG/VG

An e-liquid is a consumable intended exclusively for electronic cigarettes. The 100 ml format is sold nicotine-free, generally in a 120 ml bottle designed to hold up to two boosters. It can be vaped as it is at 0 mg/ml or supplemented with one or two nicotine boosters. For a higher strength, the mixture should be prepared in a large graduated empty bottle. Rich in vegetable glycerine, it is thicker, gentler on the throat and produces dense vapour, for direct or restricted direct lung inhalation on sub-ohm equipment.

Nicotine-free or boosted: which strength should you choose?

Adding a booster is optional: 100 ml e-liquid can be vaped perfectly well without nicotine. With direct lung inhalation, nicotine is felt more strongly than with MTL: with a 30/70 e-liquid, lower strengths are preferable.

Boosters added (10 ml at 20 mg/ml)Final volumeStrength obtainedContainerProfile
None100 ml0 mg/mlOriginal bottleNicotine-free vaping, flavour enjoyment

3 boosters130 ml≈ 4.5 mg/mlLarge graduated bottleModerate smoker, RDL vaping
4 boosters140 ml≈ 6 mg/mlLarge graduated bottleModerate smoker, RDL vaping

The resulting strengths are rounded (exactly 1.8, 3.3, 4.6 and 5.7 mg/ml). The original 120 ml bottle can hold no more than two boosters: from three onwards, the mixture must be transferred to a large bottle. For DL vaping with coils below 0.4 Ω, a strength above 3 mg/ml quickly becomes irritating: two boosters are generally sufficient. For a nicotine requirement above 6 mg/ml, the 10 ml format or nicotine salts are more suitable.

How do you boost a 100 ml e-liquid?

Up to 3 mg/ml, in the original bottle:

1
Open the bottle: remove the dropper nozzle from the 120 ml bottle (it generally pops off with a fingernail or the supplied nozzle opener).
2
Add the booster or boosters: add one booster to obtain approximately 2 mg/ml, or two boosters for approximately 3 mg/ml.
3
Close and shake: replace the nozzle, screw the cap back on and shake vigorously for around thirty seconds to mix thoroughly.
4
Leave to rest for a few minutes before filling your tank. Remember to note the resulting strength on the bottle.

For approximately 4.5 or 6 mg/ml, in a large graduated bottle:

A
Transfer the e-liquid: pour all 100 ml into a 250 ml graduated empty bottle.
B
Add the boosters: three boosters for approximately 4.5 mg/ml (130 ml), four boosters for approximately 6 mg/ml (140 ml). The graduations let you check the resulting volume.
C
Close, shake and leave to rest for a few minutes, then note the resulting strength on the bottle.

Which nicotine booster should you choose?

Le Vapoteur Discount boosters come in 10 ml bottles (dosage indicated on each product page). The nicotine type and base alter the throat sensation. With a 30/70 e-liquid, a 50/50 or nicotine salt booster retains smoothness; with 50/50 boosters, the mixture remains close to 35/65.

The 30/70 PG/VG ratio: dense vapour and a smooth throat feel

An e-liquid consists of a base of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG), flavourings and, where applicable, nicotine. PG carries flavours and provides throat hit, while VG adds smoothness and vapour volume. With 70% VG, this ratio favours dense vapour and a smooth throat sensation.

Being more viscous, a 30/70 e-liquid needs coils with wide e-liquid inlets. In a pod or MTL clearomiser, it does not soak the cotton properly and may cause dry hits (a burnt taste).

Which equipment for a 30/70 e-liquid?

30/70 performs best with sub-ohm equipment, capable of delivering power and supplying the coil correctly. Here are the most suitable types of equipment and a few examples available from Le Vapoteur Discount:

Recommended settings

The coil resistance and wattage determine the type of draw. With a 30/70 e-liquid, higher power is needed to vaporise VG effectively:

CoilDraw typeSuggested wattageSuitable nicotine strength
0.4 to 0.6 ΩRDL – restricted airy draw25 to 40 W3 to 6 mg/ml
0.2 to 0.4 ΩDL – airy draw40 to 70 W0 to 3 mg/ml
0.15 to 0.2 ΩDL – very airy draw60 to 90 W0 to 3 mg/ml

Always observe the wattage range indicated on the coil and start at the lower end of that range. For the drip tip, a wide 810-format mouthpiece makes direct lung inhalation easier and allows a large volume of vapour to pass through.

Maintaining your electronic cigarette

1
Prime every new coil: as it is thicker, 30/70 takes longer to soak into the cotton. Place a few drops on the coil, fill the tank and wait 10 minutes before first use.
2
Increase power gradually on a new coil to avoid dry hits and preserve the cotton.
3
Replace the coil as soon as flavours deteriorate or vapour decreases: VG clogs coils more quickly (on average every 1 to 2 weeks depending on use). Take the opportunity to clean the tank and drip tip completely.
4
Close the bottle securely after every refill and store it upright: a large format is used over several weeks.

Precautions for use and storage

  • If you do not smoke, do not vape.
  • Product prohibited for minors. E-liquid sold without nicotine: once a booster is added, it contains nicotine and is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or people suffering from cardiovascular conditions or high blood pressure.
  • Handle nicotine boosters with care; in case of contact with skin, rinse thoroughly with soap and water.
  • In the event of an allergy, check for possible allergens (limonene, linalool, etc.) listed on the label.
  • Keep your e-liquids closed, in a dry place, away from light and temperature changes, out of the reach of children and animals.

Remember to recycle: empty bottles should be taken to suitable collection points.

FAQ

An e-liquid (or electronic cigarette liquid) is the product that generates vapour when heated by the coil of an electronic cigarette. Unlike traditional cigarettes, there is no combustion. The e-liquid is made up of a base (propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine), flavourings, and optionally nicotine. It determines the taste, throat hit, cloud production, and overall vaping experience.

An e-liquid generally contains four elements:
  • propylene glycol (PG), which carries the flavourings, enhances the throat hit and provides a sensation close to that of a cigarette;
  • vegetable glycerin (VG), responsible for the vapour and the density of the cloud;
  • the flavourings, which give the taste (fruit, mint, classic tobacco, gourmet, ice…) ;
  • nicotine, optional, which helps manage cravings for vapers quitting smoking.
Some formulas also use alternative plant-based bases (Végétol) for a smoother experience.

An e-liquid with nicotine is intended for vapers who wish to replace traditional cigarettes. Nicotine acts on the feeling of satisfaction and limits cravings. E-liquids without nicotine are used either at the end of a cessation process, or purely for the pleasure of vaping, although it is not recommended to vape if you are not a smoker. Choosing the right nicotine level is essential to avoid a bad experience (irritation or cravings). The nicotine dosage depends on your previous cigarette consumption. A light smoker will not have the same needs as a heavy smoker. A level that is too low can lead to frustration and relapse, while a level that is too high can cause throat discomfort. The aim is to find a balance between throat hit, sensation, and vaping comfort, adjusting gradually as needed. A low dosage of 0, 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine is generally recommended for light smokers or occasional smokers (fewer than 7 cigarettes per day), and a high dosage of 20 mg/ml of nicotine salt for heavy smokers (1 packet of cigarettes or more). However, this dosage can be adjusted according to your e-cigarette and your vaping style.

Nicotine salt is a more stable and smoother form of nicotine to inhale. It provides rapid absorption, with a less harsh throat hit, even at high levels. Nicotine salt e-liquids are particularly suited to beginner vapers, former heavy smokers, and low-wattage MTL kits. There are different nicotine salt strengths. The most well-known and effective being 20 mg/ml, highly suitable for heavy smokers. However, a 10 mg/ml strength can work very well for a regular or occasional smoker.

A nicotine booster is a nicotine-concentrated bottle designed to be added to a large-format e-liquid. It allows you to adjust the final nicotine level depending on the quantity added. Flexible and cost-effective, this solution allows you to boost your large-format e-liquid to 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine. For a 50 ml e-liquid, adding one nicotine booster will give you 3 mg/ml, while two nicotine boosters will transform your e-liquid into 6 mg/ml.

The propylene glycol / vegetable glycerin ratio strongly influences the vape.
  • An e-liquid rich in propylene glycol or PG (70/30, 80/20) enhances the throat hit, flavour accuracy and a discreet vape. The e-liquid will be fluid and compatible only with MTL equipment with a tight draw to avoid leaks.
  • An e-liquid rich in vegetable glycerin or VG (30/70) produces more vapour and clouds, with a smoother, sweeter sensation. This thicker e-liquid will be compatible with sub-ohm or shisha-type e-cigarettes, producing large clouds of vapour at high wattage.
The choice therefore depends on the wattage and compatibility with your e-cigarette. If in doubt, the most common ratio remains the 50/50 PG/VG. Balanced, it allows versatile use on MTL, RDL and light DTL e-cigarette models (between approximately 15 and 40 watts).

E-liquids with a vegetable base or Végétol replace traditional propylene glycol. They are often gentler on the throat, better tolerated by vapers who are sensitive to PG, and offer a smoother vape without compromising on flavour. However, they should be used in MTL with a low wattage (minimum 30 watts) to avoid the risk of leaks and preserve the quality of the product.

Yes, CBD e-liquids are designed for vaping and generally do not contain nicotine. They offer a different sensation, focused on relaxation, with no addictive effect. They should be used at a moderate wattage to preserve the quality of the product. A tight-draw MTL e-cigarette is recommended for use with them.

E-liquids are considered a much healthier alternative to smoked tobacco. They are formulated from ingredients certified as safe for health, unlike the 7,000 harmful substances found in traditional cigarettes. Nevertheless, to choose a safe e-liquid, a few precautions should be taken, such as purchasing your e-liquid from a recognised retailer like Le Vapoteur Discount or checking the composition and origin by favouring reputable and regulated brands.

An e-liquid manufactured in France meets strict requirements and European directives regarding traceability, control, and safety. As a guarantee of quality and transparency for the consumer, French and European brands generally have their own laboratory for developing their e-liquid formula and are required to have this formulation studied by an independent laboratory before it is placed on the market. All these steps ensure that e-liquids are safe for vapers. These French and European quality standards prohibit undesirable substances and provide a more secure framework for vaping.

To keep your e-liquid for as long as possible and preserve its quality, taste and colour, you should keep it in its original bottle and ideally away from light, heat and air. Despite these precautions, it can happen that the e-liquid takes on a slightly brown tint. Safe and suitable for consumption, this colour is due to the oxidation of nicotine and can also depend on the flavouring used in the e-liquid. It is generally advised not to keep the same e-liquid for more than 5 days in your clearomiser or pod cartridge if you are not using it, to avoid leaks and excessive oxidation.

The DLUO (Date Limite d'Utilisation Optimale) or BBD (Best Before Date) is an indicative date. Once the e-liquid's date has passed, it may lose its taste qualities and appearance (colour, fluidity). An e-liquid fresh from the factory will have a BBD of approximately 2 years. Even past the BBD, the e-liquid remains suitable for vaping and will not be harmful to health.
