An e-liquid is a consumable intended exclusively for use in an electronic cigarette. The 50 ml format is sold nicotine-free, in a bottle designed to hold up to two boosters. It can be vaped as is at 0 mg/ml or topped up with one or two nicotine boosters. Slightly higher in vegetable glycerine than a 50/50 blend, it produces more generous vapour and a smoother throat hit, while retaining good flavour reproduction, for restricted direct-to-lung (RDL) vaping.
Adding boosters is optional: the 50 ml e-liquid can be vaped perfectly without nicotine. If you want nicotine, the number of boosters added determines the final strength:
| Boosters added (10 ml at 20 mg/ml) | Final volume | Strength obtained | Profile |
|---|---|---|---|
| None | 50 ml | 0 mg/ml | Nicotine-free vaping, flavour enjoyment |
| 1 booster | 60 ml | ≈ 3 mg/ml | Occasional smoker, RDL vaping |
| 2 boosters | 70 ml | ≈ 6 mg/ml | Moderate smoker, RDL vaping |
The resulting strengths are rounded (exactly 3.3 and 5.7 mg/ml). With RDL vaping, nicotine is perceived slightly more strongly than with MTL: one booster is often enough. If you need a nicotine strength above 6 mg/ml, the 10 ml format or nicotine salts are more suitable.
For a higher strength or a customised recipe, use a larger empty bottle, available in the DIY accessories.
Le Vapoteur Discount boosters come in 10 ml bottles (strength indicated on each product page). The type of nicotine and base affect the throat sensation. With a 40/60 e-liquid, each 50/50 booster increases the PG proportion very slightly: the blend remains close to 42/58.
| Booster | Sensation | Who is it for? |
|---|---|---|
| 50/50 nicotine booster | Classic throat hit, neutral flavour | The standard choice, compatible with all ratios |
| 70/30 nicotine booster | Stronger throat hit, enhanced flavours | MTL vaping, for those seeking a sensation close to a cigarette |
| Cool 50/50 nicotine booster | Classic throat hit with a touch of freshness | Fans of fresh fruity or menthol flavours |
| Nicotine salt booster | Very smooth throat hit | Vapers sensitive to throat hit or looking for smoothness |
| Cool nicotine salt booster | Smooth and cool throat hit | The smoothness of salts with a cool note |
| Hybrid nicotine booster | Balance between throat hit and smoothness | A compromise between classic nicotine and nicotine salts |

An e-liquid is made up of a base of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG), flavourings and, where applicable, nicotine. PG carries the flavours and throat hit, while VG provides smoothness and vapour volume. With 60% VG, this ratio sits between 50/50 and 30/70: denser vapour than a 50/50 blend, a smooth throat sensation and flavours that remain well defined.

Slightly thicker than a 50/50 blend, a 40/60 e-liquid is suitable for coils from 0.4 to 1.0 Ω. In a pod with a very tight draw (coil above 1.2 Ω), it may saturate the cotton more slowly.
40/60 performs best with versatile RDL-oriented equipment, capable of properly supplying a 0.4 to 1.0 Ω coil. Here are the most suitable equipment categories and a few examples available from Le Vapoteur Discount:
| Equipment | Key points | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| E-cigarettes | Versatile kits, adjustable from open MTL to RDL. | Kit Coolfire Z80 Zenith 2 – Innokin Kit Gozee – Innokin Kit GTX One Pro 40 W – Vaporesso |
| Pods | Pods with adjustable airflow, compatible with 0.4 to 1.0 Ω coils. | Kit Luxe XR Max 2 – Vaporesso Kit Pixo Max – Aspire Kit Drag X3 – Voopoo |
| Clearomisers | Choose RDL models, compatible with 0.4 to 1.0 Ω coils. | Zenith 2 – Innokin Z Nano 3 – GeekVape GOZ+ – Innokin |
The coil resistance and power determine the draw type. With a 50 ml 40/60 e-liquid, the following guidelines provide stable vaping:
| Coil resistance | Draw type | Recommended power |
|---|---|---|
| 0.8 to 1.0 Ω | MTL to RDL – intermediate draw | 15 to 22 W |
| 0.6 to 0.8 Ω | RDL – semi-airy draw | 20 to 30 W |
| 0.4 to 0.6 Ω | RDL – more open draw | 25 to 40 W |
Always start at the lower end of the power range indicated on the coil, then increase gradually. As for the drip tip, a 510 tip is suitable for an intermediate draw; for RDL, an 810 drip tip makes vapour flow easier on clearomisers designed for this format.
Remember to recycle: empty bottles should be taken to suitable collection points.

An e-liquid (or liquid for e-cigarettes) is the product that generates vapour when heated by the coil of an e-cigarette. Unlike traditional cigarettes, there is no combustion. An e-liquid is composed of a base (propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine), flavourings, and optionally nicotine. It determines the taste, throat sensation, cloud production, and the overall vaping experience.
An e-liquid generally contains four elements:
Some formulas also use alternative vegetable bases (Végétol) for extra smoothness.
An e-liquid with nicotine is intended for vapers who wish to replace traditional cigarettes. Nicotine acts on the sensation of satisfaction and reduces cravings. Nicotine-free e-liquids are used either at the end of the quitting process or purely for the enjoyment of vaping, although it is not recommended to vape if you are not a smoker. Choosing the right nicotine level is essential to avoid a poor experience (irritation or cravings). The nicotine dosage depends on your previous cigarette consumption. A light smoker will not have the same needs as a heavy smoker. Too low a level can lead to frustration and relapse, while too high a level can cause throat discomfort. The aim is to find a balance between throat hit, sensation and vaping comfort, adjusting progressively as needed. A low dosage of 0, 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine is generally recommended for light or occasional smokers (fewer than 7 cigarettes per day), and a high dosage of 20 mg/ml of nicotine salt for heavy smokers (one pack of cigarettes or more). However, this dosage can be adjusted depending on your e-cigarette and the way you vape.
Nicotine salt is a more stable and smoother form of nicotine for inhalation. It provides rapid absorption with a less harsh throat hit, even at high concentrations. Nicotine salt e-liquids are particularly well suited to beginner vapers, former heavy smokers and low-wattage MTL kits. Various nicotine salt dosages are available. The best-known and most effective is 20 mg/ml, which is very suitable for heavy smokers. However, a 10 mg/ml dosage can be perfectly adequate for a regular or occasional smoker.
A nicotine booster is a nicotine-concentrated bottle designed to be added to a large-format e-liquid. It allows you to adjust the final nicotine level according to the quantity added. Flexible and cost-effective, this solution lets you boost your large-format e-liquid to 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine. For a 50 ml e-liquid, adding one nicotine booster will give you 3 mg/ml; two nicotine boosters will bring your e-liquid up to 6 mg/ml.
The propylene glycol / vegetable glycerine ratio strongly influences the vaping experience.
The choice therefore depends on the wattage and compatibility with your e-cigarette. If in doubt, the most common ratio remains 50/50 PG/VG. Balanced, it allows versatile use across MTL, RDL and light DTL e-cigarette models (approximately between 15 and 40 watts).
E-liquids with a vegetable base or containing Végétol replace traditional propylene glycol. They are often gentler on the throat, better tolerated by vapers who are sensitive to PG, and provide a smoother vape without compromising on flavour. However, they should be used in MTL mode at low wattage (minimum 30 watts) to avoid leaks and preserve product quality.
Yes, CBD e-liquids are designed for vaping and generally contain no nicotine. They offer a different experience, focused on relaxation, without any addictive effect. They should be used at moderate wattage to preserve product quality. A tight-draw MTL e-cigarette is recommended for use with them.
E-liquids are considered a much healthier alternative to smoked tobacco. They are formulated from certified ingredients that are safe for health, unlike the 7,000 harmful substances found in traditional cigarettes. Nevertheless, to choose a safe e-liquid, a few precautions should be taken, such as buying your e-liquid from a recognised retailer such as Le Vapoteur Discount, and checking the composition and origin by favouring reputable and regulated brands.
An e-liquid manufactured in France must meet strict requirements and comply with European directives on traceability, quality control and safety. As a guarantee of quality and transparency for the consumer, French and European brands generally have their own laboratory for developing their e-liquid formulas and are required to have those formulas assessed by an independent laboratory before being placed on the market. These steps ensure that e-liquids are safe for vapers. French and European quality standards prohibit undesirable substances and provide a more secure framework for vaping.
To keep your e-liquid for as long as possible and preserve its quality, taste and colour, store it in its original bottle, ideally away from light, heat and air. Despite these precautions, the e-liquid may sometimes take on a slightly brown tint. This is harmless and safe to use — the colour is caused by the oxidation of nicotine and may also depend on the flavouring used in the e-liquid. It is generally recommended not to leave the same e-liquid in your clearomiser or pod cartridge for more than 5 days if you are not using it, in order to avoid leaks and excessive oxidation.
The BBD (Best Before Date) or MHD (Minimum Durability Date) is an indicative date. Once the e-liquid's date has passed, it may lose some of its taste qualities and appearance (colour, fluidity). A factory-fresh e-liquid will have a BBD of approximately 2 years. Even past the BBD, the e-liquid remains safe to vaporise and will not be harmful to health.
