Choosing the right 100 ml 40/60 PG/VG ready-to-boost e-liquid

An e-liquid is a consumable intended exclusively for use with an e-cigarette. The 100 ml format is sold nicotine-free, generally in a 120 ml bottle designed to hold up to two boosters. It can be vaped as is at 0 mg/ml or topped up with one or two nicotine boosters. For a higher strength, prepare the mixture in a large empty graduated bottle. Slightly richer in vegetable glycerine than a 50/50, it delivers more generous vapour and a softer throat hit while retaining good flavour reproduction, for restricted direct inhalation (RDL).

Nicotine-free or boosted: which strength should you choose?

Adding a booster is optional: the 100 ml e-liquid can be vaped perfectly well without nicotine. If you want nicotine, the number of boosters added determines the final strength:

Boosters added (10 ml at 20 mg/ml)Final volumeResulting strengthContainerProfile
None100 ml0 mg/mlOriginal bottleNicotine-free vaping, flavour enjoyment
1 booster110 ml≈ 2 mg/mlOriginal bottleVery low nicotine requirement
2 boosters120 ml≈ 3 mg/mlOriginal bottleOccasional smoker, RDL vaping
3 boosters130 ml≈ 4.5 mg/mlLarge graduated bottleModerate smoker, RDL vaping
4 boosters140 ml≈ 6 mg/mlLarge graduated bottleModerate smoker, MTL or restricted RDL vaping

The resulting strengths are rounded (exactly 1.8; 3.3; 4.6 and 5.7 mg/ml). The original 120 ml bottle can hold a maximum of two boosters: from three boosters onwards, the mixture must be transferred to a large bottle. With RDL, nicotine is felt slightly more strongly than with MTL: two boosters are often sufficient. For nicotine requirements above 6 mg/ml, the 10 ml format or nicotine salts are more suitable.

How do you add boosters to a 100 ml e-liquid?

Up to 3 mg/ml, in the original bottle:

1
Open the bottle: remove the dropper nozzle from the 120 ml bottle (it usually pops off using your fingernail or the nozzle opener provided).
2
Pour in the nicotine shot(s): add one nicotine shot to obtain around 2 mg/ml, or two nicotine shots for around 3 mg/ml.
3
Close and shake: replace the nozzle, screw the cap back on and shake vigorously for around 30 seconds to blend the mixture evenly.
4
Leave to rest for a few minutes before filling your tank. Remember to note the resulting strength on the bottle.

For around 4.5 or 6 mg/ml, in a large graduated bottle:

A
Transfer the e-liquid: pour the full 100 ml into an empty 250 ml graduated bottle.
B
Add the nicotine shots: three nicotine shots for around 4.5 mg/ml (130 ml), four nicotine shots for around 6 mg/ml (140 ml). The graduations allow you to check the resulting volume.
C
Close, shake and leave to rest for a few minutes, then note the resulting strength on the bottle.

Which nicotine shot should you choose?

Le Vapoteur Discount boosters come in 10 ml bottles (strength indicated on each product page). The type of nicotine and base affect the throat sensation. With a 40/60 e-liquid, each 50/50 booster increases the PG proportion very slightly: the blend remains close to 42/58.

The 40/60 PG/VG ratio: generous vapour and smoothness

An e-liquid is made up of a base of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG), flavourings and, where applicable, nicotine. PG carries the flavours and throat hit, while VG provides smoothness and vapour volume. With 60% VG, this ratio sits between 50/50 and 30/70: denser vapour than a 50/50 blend, a smooth throat sensation and flavours that remain well defined.

Slightly thicker than a 50/50 blend, a 40/60 e-liquid is suitable for coils from 0.4 to 1.0 Ω. In a pod with a very tight draw (coil above 1.2 Ω), it may saturate the cotton more slowly.

What equipment should you use for a 40/60 e-liquid?

40/60 performs best with versatile RDL-oriented equipment, capable of properly supplying a 0.4 to 1.0 Ω coil. Here are the most suitable equipment categories and a few examples available from Le Vapoteur Discount:

Recommended settings

The value of the coil and the power determine the vaping style. With a 100 ml 40/60 e-liquid, the following guidelines provide a consistent vape:

CoilVaping styleSuggested power
0.8 to 1.0 ΩMTL to RDL – intermediate draw15 to 22 W
0.6 to 0.8 ΩRDL – semi-airy draw20 to 30 W
0.4 to 0.6 ΩRDL – more open draw25 to 40 W

Always start at the lower end of the power range stated on the coil, then increase gradually. For the drip tip, a 510 mouthpiece is suitable for an intermediate draw; for RDL, an 810 drip tip makes it easier for vapour to pass through clearomisers designed for this format.

How to maintain your e-cigarette

1
Prime every new coil: being slightly thicker than a 50/50 blend, 40/60 takes longer to saturate the cotton. Add a few drops to the coil, fill the tank, then wait 5 to 10 minutes before first use.
2
Increase the power gradually with a new coil to avoid dry hits and preserve the cotton.
3
Replace the coil as soon as flavours deteriorate or vapour decreases: VG clogs coils slightly faster (on average every 1 to 3 weeks depending on use). Take the opportunity to thoroughly clean the tank and drip tip.
4
Close the bottle tightly after each refill and store it upright: a large format is used over several weeks.

Usage and storage precautions

  • If you do not smoke, do not vape.
  • Product prohibited for minors. E-liquid sold without nicotine: once a booster has been added, it contains nicotine and is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or people suffering from cardiovascular disorders or high blood pressure.
  • Handle nicotine boosters with care; in case of contact with skin, rinse thoroughly with soap and water.
  • In case of allergy, check for any allergens (limonene, linalool, etc.) listed on the label.
  • Keep your e-liquids closed, in a dry place, away from light and temperature fluctuations, out of reach of children and animals.

Remember to recycle: empty bottles should be taken to suitable collection points.

FAQ

An e-liquid (or liquid for electronic cigarettes) is the product that generates vapour when heated by the coil of an electronic cigarette. Unlike traditional cigarettes, there is no combustion. The e-liquid is made up of a base (propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine), flavourings, and optionally nicotine. It determines the taste, the throat hit, the cloud production, and the overall vaping experience.

An e-liquid generally contains four elements:
  • propylene glycol (PG), which carries the flavours, enhances the throat hit and provides a sensation close to that of a cigarette;
  • vegetable glycerin (VG), responsible for the vapour and the density of the cloud;
  • flavourings, which give the taste (fruit, mint, classic tobacco, dessert, ice…);
  • nicotine, optional, which helps manage cravings in vapers who are quitting smoking.
Some formulas also use alternative plant-based bases (Végétol) for extra smoothness.

An e-liquid with nicotine is intended for vapers who wish to replace traditional cigarettes. Nicotine acts on the feeling of satisfaction and limits cravings. E-liquids without nicotine are used either at the end of the quitting process, or purely for the pleasure of vaping, even though it is not recommended to vape if you are not a smoker. Choosing the right nicotine level is essential to avoid a bad experience (throat irritation or cravings). The nicotine dosage depends on your previous cigarette consumption. A light smoker will not have the same needs as a heavy smoker. A level that is too low can lead to frustration and relapse, whilst a level that is too high can cause throat discomfort. The goal is to find a balance between throat hit, sensation and vaping comfort, adjusting gradually if needed. We generally recommend a low dosage of 0, 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine for light smokers or occasional smokers (fewer than 7 cigarettes per day), and a high dosage of 20 mg/ml of nicotine salt for heavy smokers (1 packet of cigarettes or more). However, this dosage can be adjusted depending on your e-cigarette and your vaping style.

Nicotine salt is a more stable form of nicotine that is smoother to inhale. It provides rapid absorption, with a less harsh throat hit, even at high strengths. Nicotine salt e-liquids are particularly suited to beginner vapers, former heavy smokers, and low-wattage MTL kits. There are various nicotine salt strengths available. The most well-known and effective being 20 mg/ml, which is very suitable for heavy smokers. However, a 10 mg/ml strength can work very well for a regular or occasional smoker.

A nicotine booster is a nicotine-concentrated bottle designed to be added to a large-format e-liquid. It allows you to adjust the final nicotine level according to the quantity added. Flexible and economical, this solution allows you to boost your large-format e-liquid to 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine. For a 50 ml e-liquid, adding one nicotine booster will give you 3 mg/ml, while two nicotine boosters will turn your e-liquid into 6 mg/ml.

The propylene glycol / vegetable glycerin ratio strongly influences the vape.
  • An e-liquid rich in propylene glycol or PG (70/30, 80/20) enhances the throat hit, flavour precision and a discreet vape. The e-liquid will be fluid and compatible only with MTL equipment with a tight draw to avoid leaks.
  • An e-liquid rich in vegetable glycerin or VG (30/70) produces more vapour and clouds, with a smoother, sweeter sensation. This thicker e-liquid will be compatible with sub-ohm or shisha-type electronic cigarettes, producing large clouds of vapour at high power.
The choice therefore depends on the power and compatibility with your electronic cigarette. If in doubt, the most common ratio remains 50/50 PG/VG. Balanced, it allows versatile use on MTL, RDL and light DTL electronic cigarette models (between approximately 15 and 40 watts).

E-liquids with a vegetable base or Végétol replace traditional propylene glycol. They are often gentler on the throat, better tolerated by vapers who are sensitive to PG, and offer a smoother vape without compromising on flavour. However, they should be used in MTL with a low wattage (minimum 30 watts) to avoid the risk of leaks and to preserve the quality of the product.

Yes, CBD e-liquids are designed for vaping and generally do not contain nicotine. They offer a different sensation, focused on relaxation, without any addictive effect. They should be used at moderate wattage to preserve the quality of the product. A tight-draw MTL e-cigarette is recommended for use with them.

E-liquids are considered a much healthier alternative to smoked tobacco. They are formulated from ingredients certified as safe for health, unlike the 7,000 harmful substances found in traditional cigarettes. Nevertheless, to choose a safe e-liquid, a few precautions should be taken, such as buying your e-liquid from a recognised retailer like Le Vapoteur Discount or checking the composition and origin by favouring reputable and regulated brands.

An e-liquid manufactured in France meets strict requirements and European directives regarding traceability, control, and safety. As a guarantee of quality and transparency for the consumer, French and European brands generally have their own laboratory for developing their e-liquid formula and are required to have this formulation assessed by an independent laboratory before placing it on the market. These steps ensure that e-liquids are safe for vapers. These French and European quality standards prohibit undesirable substances and provide a more secure framework for vaping.

To keep your e-liquid as long as possible and preserve its quality, taste and colour, you should keep it in its original bottle and ideally away from light, heat and air. Despite these precautions, it can happen that the e-liquid takes on a slightly brown tint. Safe and suitable for consumption, this colour is due to the oxidation of nicotine and can also depend on the flavouring used in the e-liquid. It is generally recommended not to keep the same e-liquid for more than 5 days in your clearomiser or pod cartridge if you are not using it, to avoid leaks and excessive oxidation.

The DLUO (Date Limite d'Utilisation Optimale) or BBD (Best Before Date) is an indicative date. Once the e-liquid's date has passed, it may lose its flavour qualities and appearance (colour, fluidity). An e-liquid coming straight from the factory will have a BBD of approximately 2 years. Even past its BBD, the e-liquid remains suitable for vaping and will not be harmful to health.
