Essential for the operation of any e-cigarette, e-liquid determines the flavour, throat hit and vapour produced. The 10 ml format is the only one permitted by European regulations (TPD) to contain nicotine, up to 20 mg/ml. Slightly higher in propylene glycol than a 50/50 blend, a 60/40 e-liquid focuses on flavour and provides a pronounced throat hit, with moderate vapour production. It is vaped using mouth-to-lung (MTL) or restricted direct-to-lung inhalation.
The right nicotine strength depends on your tobacco consumption and habits. The aim is to achieve a comfortable throat sensation (the “hit”), without irritation or cravings.
| Profile | Consumption | Recommended strength | Throat sensation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Occasional smoker | Fewer than 5 cigarettes / day | 0 to 3 mg/ml | ●○○○ Mild |
| Moderate smoker | 5 to 10 cigarettes / day | 6 mg/ml | ●●○○ Moderate |
| Regular smoker | 10 to 20 cigarettes / day | 12 mg/ml | ●●●○ Pronounced |
| Heavy smoker | More than 20 cigarettes / day | 16 to 20 mg/ml | ●●●● Intense |
These guidelines are indicative: the sensation, equipment used and inhalation style may lead you to adjust your strength. As PG slightly enhances the throat hit, a slightly lower strength than with a 50/50 blend may be sufficient. For higher strengths, nicotine salts offer a smoother throat sensation. The strengths available for this e-liquid are shown in the product page selector.
An e-liquid is made up of a base of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG), flavourings and, where applicable, nicotine. PG carries the flavour and throat hit, while VG provides smoothness and vapour volume. With 60% PG, this ratio sits between the versatile 50/50 blend and the MTL-focused 70/30 blend: precise flavours, a pronounced throat hit and slightly more vapour than 70/30.
| PG/VG ratio | 70/30 | 60/40 | 50/50 | 30/70 |

| Suitable equipment | Pods, MTL clearomisers | Pods, MTL and restricted RDL clearomisers | Pods, kits, MTL and RDL clearomisers | Mods, sub-ohm clearomisers (DL) |
Fairly fluid, a 60/40 e-liquid is suitable for coils from 0.6 to 1.2 Ω. In very airy sub-ohm equipment, it may leak and produce an overly pronounced throat hit.
60/40 is used with MTL or restricted RDL equipment focused on flavour delivery. Here are the most suitable equipment categories and a few examples available from Le Vapoteur Discount:
| Equipment | Key points | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Electronic cigarettes | Kits with MTL or restricted RDL clearomisers, moderate power. | Kit Q16 Pro – Justfog Kit PockeX Pocket AIO – Aspire Kit Coolfire Z80 Zenith 2 – Innokin |
| Pods | Tight or intermediate-draw cartridges, with no complex adjustments required. | Kit Xros 6 – Vaporesso Kit Pixo Max – Aspire Kit Ursa Nano 3 – Lost Vape |
| Clearomisers | Choose MTL or restricted RDL models compatible with coils from 0.6 to 1.2 Ω. | Zenith 2 – Innokin Q16 Pro Plus – Justfog GOZ+ – Innokin |
The value of the coil and the power determine the type of draw. With a 60/40 e-liquid, moderate power is enough to release the flavours:
| Coil | Type of draw | Recommended power | Suitable nicotine strength |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.0 to 1.2 Ω | MTL – tight draw, similar to a cigarette | 10 to 18 W | All strengths |
| 0.6 to 0.9 Ω | MTL to RDL – intermediate draw | 15 to 25 W | Up to 12 mg/ml |
Always start at the lower end of the power range indicated on the coil, then increase gradually without exceeding 25 W. For the drip tip, a 510 mouthpiece is suitable for most uses and concentrates the flavours.
Remember to recycle: empty bottles should be taken to appropriate collection points.

An e-liquid (or liquid for e-cigarettes) is the product that generates vapour when heated by the coil of an e-cigarette. Unlike traditional cigarettes, there is no combustion. The e-liquid is composed of a base (propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin), flavourings, and optionally nicotine. It determines the taste, the throat sensation, the cloud production, and the overall vaping experience.
An e-liquid generally contains four elements:
Some formulas also use alternative plant-based bases (Végétol) for a smoother experience.
An e-liquid with nicotine is intended for vapers who wish to replace traditional cigarettes. Nicotine acts on the feeling of satisfaction and limits cravings. E-liquids without nicotine are used either at the end of a quitting process, or purely for the enjoyment of vaping, although it is not recommended to vape if you are not a smoker. Choosing the right nicotine level is essential to avoid a poor experience (irritation or cravings). The nicotine dosage depends on your previous cigarette consumption. A light smoker will not have the same needs as a heavy smoker. A level that is too low can lead to frustration and relapse, while a level that is too high can cause throat discomfort. The goal is to find a balance between hit, sensation and vaping comfort, adjusting gradually as needed. A low dosage of 0, 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine is generally recommended for light or occasional smokers (fewer than 7 cigarettes per day), and a high dosage of 20 mg/ml of nicotine salt for heavy smokers (1 packet of cigarettes or more). However, this dosage can be adjusted depending on your e-cigarette and your vaping style.
Nicotine salt is a more stable and smoother form of nicotine to inhale. It provides rapid absorption with a less harsh throat hit, even at high levels. Nicotine salt e-liquids are particularly suited to beginner vapers, former heavy smokers, and low-power MTL kits. There are different nicotine salt dosages. The best-known and most effective is 20 mg/ml, highly suitable for heavy smokers. However, a dosage of 10 mg/ml can work very well for a regular or occasional smoker.
A nicotine booster is a nicotine-concentrated bottle designed to be added to a large-format e-liquid. It allows you to adjust the final nicotine level according to the quantity added. Flexible and cost-effective, this solution allows you to boost your large-format e-liquid to 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine. For a 50 ml e-liquid, adding one nicotine booster will give you 3 mg/ml, while two nicotine boosters will bring your e-liquid up to 6 mg/ml.
The propylene glycol / vegetable glycerin ratio has a strong influence on the vaping experience.
The choice therefore depends on the wattage and compatibility with your e-cigarette. If in doubt, the most common ratio remains 50/50 PG/VG. Balanced, it allows versatile use across MTL, RDL and light DTL e-cigarette models (between approximately 15 and 40 watts).
Plant-based or Végétol e-liquids replace traditional propylene glycol. They are often gentler on the throat, better tolerated by vapers who are sensitive to PG, and offer a smoother vaping experience without compromising on flavour. However, they should be used in MTL mode at a low wattage (minimum 30 watts) to avoid the risk of leaks and to preserve the quality of the product.
Yes, CBD e-liquids are designed for vaping and generally do not contain nicotine. They offer a different sensation, focused on relaxation, with no addictive effect. They should be used at moderate wattage to preserve the quality of the product. An MTL e-cigarette with a tight draw is recommended.
E-liquids are considered a far healthier alternative to smoked tobacco. They are formulated from ingredients certified as safe for health, unlike the 7,000 harmful substances found in traditional cigarettes. Nevertheless, a few precautions should be taken when choosing a safe e-liquid, such as purchasing from a recognised retailer like Le Vapoteur Discount, and checking the composition and origin by opting for reputable, regulated brands.
An e-liquid manufactured in France meets strict requirements and European directives regarding traceability, control, and safety. As a guarantee of quality and transparency for the consumer, French and European brands generally have their own laboratory for developing their e-liquid formula and are required to have this formulation studied by an independent laboratory before bringing it to market. All these steps ensure that e-liquids are safe for vapers. These French and European quality standards prohibit undesirable substances and provide a more secure framework for vaping.
To keep your e-liquid as long as possible and preserve its quality, taste and colour, store it in its original bottle, ideally away from light, heat and air. Despite these precautions, the e-liquid may take on a slightly brown tint. This is harmless and safe to use; the colour is due to the oxidation of nicotine and may also depend on the flavouring used in the e-liquid. It is generally recommended not to leave the same e-liquid in your clearomiser or pod cartridge for more than 5 days if you are not using it, in order to avoid leaks and excessive oxidation.
The BBD (Best Before Date) or MHD (Minimum Durability Date) is an indicative date. Once the e-liquid's date has passed, it may lose its taste qualities and appearance (colour, consistency). An e-liquid fresh from the factory will have a BBD of around 2 years. Even past its BBD, the e-liquid remains safe to vaporise and will not be harmful to health.
