An e-liquid is a consumable intended exclusively for electronic cigarettes. In a plant-based e-liquid, propylene glycol (PG) is replaced by a plant-derived ingredient, such as Végétol®, vegetable mono propylene glycol (MPGV) or Olivéine. Vegetable glycerine (VG), flavourings and, where applicable, nicotine complete the recipe. The 10 ml format is the only one permitted by European regulations (TPD) to contain nicotine, up to a limit of 20 mg/ml.
Depending on the manufacturer, different plant-derived ingredients replace propylene glycol:
| Ingredient | Origin | Role in the e-liquid |
|---|---|---|
| Végétol® | Propanediol (1,3-propanediol) obtained by fermenting plant-based raw materials | Replaces propylene glycol: carries flavourings and throat hit |
| MPGV | Plant-derived mono propylene glycol | The same molecule as conventional PG, produced from plant resources |
| Olivéine | Olive-derived ingredient | Used by certain manufacturers as a replacement for PG |
| Vegetable glycerine (VG) | Vegetable oils | Provides smoothness and vapour volume, as in a conventional e-liquid |
The result of a plant-based e-liquid is similar to that of a conventional e-liquid with an equivalent ratio. Végétol® provides a slightly different throat hit to PG: a few days may be needed to get used to the throat sensation. The exact ingredients are listed on the label of each e-liquid.
The right nicotine strength depends on your tobacco consumption and habits. The aim is to achieve a comfortable throat sensation (the “hit”), without irritation or cravings.
| Profile | Consumption | Indicative strength | Throat sensation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Occasional smoker | Less than 5 cigarettes / day | 0 to 3 mg/ml | ●○○○ Light |
| Moderate smoker | 5 to 10 cigarettes / day | 6 mg/ml | ●●○○ Moderate |
| Regular smoker | 10 to 20 cigarettes / day | 12 mg/ml | ●●●○ Pronounced |
| Heavy smoker | More than 20 cigarettes / day | 16 to 20 mg/ml | ●●●● Intense |
These guidelines are indicative: the sensation, equipment used and inhalation style may lead you to adjust your strength. The higher the vaping power, the more strongly the throat hit is felt: a high strength is best vaped using mouth-to-lung inhalation (MTL). For high strengths, nicotine salts provide a gentler throat sensation. The strengths available for this e-liquid are shown in the product page selector.
Plant-based e-liquids can be used with versatile equipment, in MTL or RDL; however, they are not well suited to very airy sub-ohm equipment. Here are the most suitable equipment categories and a few examples available from Le Vapoteur Discount:
| Equipment | Key points | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Electronic cigarettes | Complete kits (battery + clearomiser), with simple or adjustable settings depending on the model. | Kit Q16 Pro – Justfog Kit PockeX Pocket AIO – Aspire Kit Coolfire Z80 Zenith 2 – Innokin |
| Pods | Compact format, refillable cartridges, no complex settings required. | Kit Luxe XR Max 2 – Vaporesso Kit Kiwi 2 – Kiwi Vapor Kit Pixo Max – Aspire |
| Clearomisers | Choose MTL or RDL models compatible with 0.4 to 1.2 Ω coils. | Zenith 2 – Innokin Q16 Pro Plus – Justfog GOZ+ – Innokin Z Nano 3 – GeekVape |
The coil resistance and power determine the type of draw. With a plant-based e-liquid, the following guidelines provide stable vaping:
| Coil | Draw type | Indicative power | Suitable nicotine strength |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.0 to 1.2 Ω | MTL – tight draw, similar to a cigarette | 10 to 18 W | All strengths |
| 0.6 to 0.9 Ω | MTL to RDL – intermediate draw | 15 to 25 W | Up to 12 mg/ml |
| 0.4 to 0.5 Ω | RDL – semi-airy draw | 25 to 30 W | 0 to 6 mg/ml |
Ideally, stay between 0.4 and 1.2 Ω and do not exceed 30 W, to preserve flavourings and coil lifespan. For the drip tip, a 510 mouthpiece is suitable for most uses.
Remember to recycle: dispose of empty bottles at suitable collection points.

An e-liquid (or liquid for e-cigarettes) is the product that generates vapour when heated by the coil of an e-cigarette. Unlike traditional cigarettes, there is no combustion. The e-liquid is composed of a base (propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin), flavourings, and optionally nicotine. It determines the taste, throat sensation, cloud production, and the overall vaping experience.
An e-liquid generally contains four elements:
Some formulas also use alternative plant-based bases (Végétol) for a smoother experience.
An e-liquid with nicotine is intended for vapers who wish to replace the traditional cigarette. Nicotine acts on the feeling of satisfaction and reduces cravings. Nicotine-free e-liquids are used either at the end of the quitting process, or purely for the pleasure of vaping, although it is not recommended to vape if you are not a smoker. Choosing the right nicotine level is essential to avoid a poor experience (irritation or cravings). The nicotine dosage depends on your previous cigarette consumption. A light smoker will not have the same needs as a heavy smoker. A level that is too low can lead to frustration and relapse, while a level that is too high can cause throat discomfort. The goal is to find the right balance between hit, sensation and vaping comfort, adjusting gradually as needed. A low dosage of 0, 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine is generally recommended for light or occasional smokers (fewer than 7 cigarettes per day), and a high dosage of 20 mg/ml of nicotine salt for heavy smokers (one packet of cigarettes or more). However, this dosage can be adjusted based on your e-cigarette and your vaping style.
Nicotine salt is a more stable form of nicotine that is smoother to inhale. It provides rapid absorption with a less harsh throat hit, even at high levels. Nicotine salt e-liquids are particularly suited to beginner vapers, former heavy smokers, and low-power MTL kits. Various nicotine salt dosages are available. The best-known and most effective is 20 mg/ml, which is well suited to heavy smokers. However, a dosage of 10 mg/ml may be perfectly suitable for a regular or occasional smoker.
A nicotine booster is a nicotine-concentrated bottle designed to be added to a large-format e-liquid. It allows you to adjust the final nicotine level depending on the quantity added. Flexible and cost-effective, this solution lets you boost your large-format e-liquid to 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine. For a 50 ml e-liquid, adding one nicotine booster will give you 3 mg/ml, while two nicotine boosters will bring your e-liquid to 6 mg/ml.
The propylene glycol / vegetable glycerin ratio strongly influences the vaping experience.
The choice therefore depends on the wattage and compatibility with your e-cigarette. If in doubt, the most common ratio remains 50/50 PG/VG. Balanced, it allows versatile use on MTL, RDL, and light DTL e-cigarette models (approximately between 15 and 40 watts).
Plant-based or Végétol e-liquids replace traditional propylene glycol. They are often gentler on the throat, better tolerated by vapers who are sensitive to PG, and offer a smoother vape without compromising on flavour. However, they should be used in MTL mode at low power (minimum 30 watts) to avoid the risk of leaks and to preserve the quality of the product.
Yes, CBD e-liquids are designed for vaping and generally contain no nicotine. They offer a different sensation, focused on relaxation, with no addictive effect. They should be used at moderate power to preserve the quality of the product. We recommend using them with a tight-draw MTL e-cigarette.
E-liquids are considered a much healthier alternative to smoked tobacco. They are formulated from ingredients certified as safe for health, unlike the 7,000 harmful substances found in traditional cigarettes. Nevertheless, to choose a safe e-liquid, a few precautions should be taken, such as purchasing your e-liquid from a recognised retailer like Le Vapoteur Discount, or checking the composition and origin by favouring reputable and regulated brands.
An e-liquid manufactured in France meets strict requirements and European directives regarding traceability, quality control and safety. As a guarantee of quality and transparency for the consumer, French and European brands generally have their own laboratory for developing their e-liquid formula, and are required to have this formulation assessed by an independent laboratory before it is placed on the market. These steps ensure that e-liquids are safe for vapers. These French and European quality standards prohibit undesirable substances and offer a more secure framework for vaping.
To keep your e-liquid as long as possible and preserve its quality, taste and colour, you should store it in its original bottle, ideally away from light, heat and air. Despite these precautions, the e-liquid may sometimes take on a slightly brown tint. Safe and fit for consumption, this colour is due to the oxidation of nicotine and may also depend on the flavouring used in the e-liquid. It is generally recommended not to keep the same e-liquid for more than 5 days in your clearomiser or pod cartridge if you are not using it, to avoid leaks and excessive oxidation.
The BBD (Best Before Date) or MHD (Minimum Durability Date) is an indicative date. Once the e-liquid's date has passed, it may lose its taste qualities and appearance (colour, fluidity). An e-liquid fresh from the factory will have a BBD of around 2 years. Even past its BBD, the e-liquid remains suitable for vaping and will not be harmful to health.
