Choosing the right 10 ml 70/30 PG/VG e-liquid

Essential for the operation of any electronic cigarette, e-liquid determines the flavour, throat hit and vapour produced. The 10 ml format is the only format permitted by European regulations (TPD) to contain nicotine, up to 20 mg/ml. Rich in propylene glycol, a 70/30 e-liquid is fluid, highly flavoursome and delivers a pronounced throat hit, for indirect inhalation similar to the draw of a cigarette.

MTLIndirect inhalation, tight draw
≤ 20 mg/mlMaximum nicotine strength (TPD)

Which nicotine strength should you choose?

The right nicotine strength depends on your tobacco consumption and habits. The aim is to achieve a comfortable throat sensation (the “hit”), without irritation or cravings. The 70/30 ratio is suitable for the full range of strengths, including high doses, thanks to the low power used for MTL.

ProfileConsumptionSuggested strengthThroat sensation
Occasional smokerFewer than 5 cigarettes / day0 to 3 mg/ml●○○○ Light
Moderate smoker5 to 10 cigarettes / day6 mg/ml●●○○ Moderate
Regular smoker10 to 20 cigarettes / day12 mg/ml●●●○ Pronounced
Heavy smokerMore than 20 cigarettes / day16 to 20 mg/ml●●●● Intense

These guidelines are indicative: the sensation, equipment used and inhalation style may lead you to adjust your strength. As PG enhances the hit, a slightly lower strength than for a 50/50 may be enough. For high strengths, nicotine salts provide a gentler throat sensation. The strengths available for this e-liquid are shown in the product page selector.

The 70/30 PG/VG ratio: flavour and throat hit first

An e-liquid is made up of a propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG) base, flavourings and, where applicable, nicotine. PG carries flavours and the throat hit, while VG adds smoothness and vapour volume. With 70% PG, this ratio prioritises flavour precision and throat sensation, with discreet vapour.

Very fluid, a 70/30 e-liquid quickly saturates coils designed for a tight draw. However, it is not recommended for sub-ohm equipment, where it may leak and produce an overly harsh hit.

What equipment for a 70/30 e-liquid?

70/30 performs best on compact, MTL-oriented equipment focused on flavour delivery. Here are the most suitable equipment types and a few examples available from Le Vapoteur Discount:

Recommended settings

The coil resistance and power determine the draw type. With a 70/30 e-liquid, low power is enough to release the flavours:

CoilDraw typeSuggested powerSuitable nicotine strength
1.2 to 1.8 ΩMTL – tight draw, similar to a cigarette8 to 15 WAll strengths
0.8 to 1.2 ΩMTL – slightly more open draw12 to 20 WUp to 12 mg/ml

Always start at the bottom of the power range indicated on the coil, then increase gradually without exceeding 20 W. For the drip tip, a slim, elongated 510 mouthpiece concentrates flavours and enhances the mouthfeel.

Maintaining your electronic cigarette

1
Prime every new coil: place a few drops of e-liquid on the cotton, fill the tank, then wait a few minutes before first use.
2
Check for leaks: as it is fluid, 70/30 may leak if the coil resistance is too low or the tank is not closed properly. Check the seals with every refill.
3
Replace the coil as soon as flavours deteriorate or vapour decreases (on average every 2 to 3 weeks depending on use), and take the opportunity to thoroughly clean the tank and drip tip.
4
Avoid leaving a filled tank unused for more than 5 days, to limit leaks and flavour deterioration.

Precautions for use and storage

  • If you do not smoke, do not vape.
  • Product containing nicotine: prohibited for minors and not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or people with cardiovascular disorders or high blood pressure.
  • In case of allergy, check for possible allergens (limonene, linalool, etc.) listed on the label.
  • In case of skin contact, rinse thoroughly with soap and water.
  • Store your e-liquids closed, in a dry place away from light and temperature fluctuations, out of reach of children and animals.

Remember to recycle: empty bottles should be taken to suitable collection points.

FAQ

An e-liquid (or liquid for electronic cigarettes) is the product that generates vapour when heated by the coil of an electronic cigarette. Unlike traditional cigarettes, there is no combustion. The e-liquid is composed of a base (propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine), flavourings, and optionally nicotine. It determines the flavour, throat sensation, cloud production, and the overall vaping experience.

An e-liquid generally contains four elements:

  • propylene glycol (PG), which carries the flavourings, enhances the throat hit and provides a sensation close to that of a cigarette;
  • vegetable glycerine (VG), responsible for the vapour and cloud density;
  • flavourings, which provide the taste (fruit, mint, classic tobacco, dessert, ice…);
  • nicotine, optional, which helps manage cravings in vapers who are quitting.

Some formulas also use alternative vegetable bases (Végétol) for extra smoothness.

An e-liquid with nicotine is intended for vapers who wish to replace the traditional cigarette. Nicotine acts on the feeling of satisfaction and reduces cravings. Nicotine-free e-liquids are used either at the end of a cessation programme or simply for the pleasure of vaping, even though it is not recommended to vape if you are not a smoker. Choosing the right nicotine level is essential to avoid a poor experience (irritation or cravings). The nicotine dosage depends on your previous cigarette consumption. A light smoker will not have the same needs as a heavy smoker. A level that is too low can lead to frustration and relapse, while a level that is too high can cause throat discomfort. The aim is to find a balance between throat hit, sensation, and vaping comfort, adjusting gradually as needed. A low dosage of 0, 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine is generally recommended for light or occasional smokers (fewer than 7 cigarettes per day), and a high dosage of 20 mg/ml of nicotine salt for heavy smokers (one pack of cigarettes or more). However, this dosage can be adjusted according to your electronic cigarette and your vaping style.

Nicotine salt is a more stable form of nicotine that is smoother to inhale. It provides rapid absorption with a less aggressive throat hit, even at high levels. Nicotine salt e-liquids are particularly suited to beginner vapers, former heavy smokers, and low-power MTL kits. Various nicotine salt dosages are available. The best known and most effective is 20 mg/ml, which is ideally suited to heavy smokers. However, a dosage of 10 mg/ml can be perfectly suitable for a regular or occasional smoker.

A nicotine booster is a nicotine-concentrated bottle designed to be added to a large-format e-liquid. It allows you to adjust the final nicotine level according to the quantity added. Flexible and cost-effective, this solution allows you to boost your large-format e-liquid to 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine. For a 50 ml e-liquid, adding one nicotine booster will give you 3 mg/ml, while two nicotine boosters will transform your e-liquid into 6 mg/ml.

The propylene glycol / vegetable glycerine ratio strongly influences the vape.

  • An e-liquid rich in propylene glycol or PG (70/30, 80/20) enhances the hit, flavour precision and a discreet vape. The e-liquid will be fluid and compatible only with MTL equipment with a tight draw to avoid leaks.
  • An e-liquid rich in vegetable glycerine or VG (30/70) produces more vapour and cloud, with a softer, sweeter sensation. This thicker e-liquid will be compatible with sub-ohm or shisha-type electronic cigarettes, producing large clouds of vapour at high power.

The choice therefore depends on the power and compatibility with your electronic cigarette. If in doubt, the most common ratio remains 50/50 PG/VG. Balanced, it allows versatile use across MTL, RDL and light DTL electronic cigarette models (between approximately 15 and 40 watts).

E-liquids with a vegetable base or Végétol replace traditional propylene glycol. They are often gentler on the throat, better tolerated by vapers who are sensitive to PG, and offer a smoother vape without compromising on flavour. However, they should be used in MTL mode at low power (minimum 30 watts) to avoid the risk of leaks and to preserve the quality of the product.

Yes, CBD e-liquids are designed for vaping and generally do not contain nicotine. They offer a different sensation, focused on relaxation, with no addictive effect. They should be used at moderate power to preserve the quality of the product. Pair them with an MTL electronic cigarette with a tight draw.

E-liquids are considered a much healthier alternative to smoked tobacco. They are formulated from ingredients certified as safe for health, unlike the 7,000 harmful substances found in traditional cigarettes. Nevertheless, to choose a safe e-liquid, a few precautions should be taken, such as purchasing your e-liquid from a recognised retailer like Le Vapoteur Discount, or checking the composition and origin by favouring reputable and regulated brands.

An e-liquid manufactured in France meets strict requirements and European directives regarding traceability, control and safety. As a guarantee of quality and transparency for the consumer, French and European brands generally have their own laboratory for developing their e-liquid formula and are required to have this formulation assessed by an independent laboratory before going to market. All these steps ensure that e-liquids are safe for vapers. These French and European quality standards prohibit undesirable substances and provide a more secure framework for vaping.

To keep your e-liquid as long as possible and preserve its quality, flavour and colour, you should store it in its original bottle and ideally away from light, heat and air. Despite these precautions, the e-liquid may sometimes take on a slightly brown tint. Safe and fit for consumption, this colour is due to the oxidation of nicotine and may also depend on the flavouring used in the e-liquid. It is generally recommended not to keep the same e-liquid for more than 5 days in your clearomiser or pod cartridge if you are not using it, in order to avoid leaks and excessive oxidation.

The DLUO (Date Limite d'Utilisation Optimale) or BBD (Best Before Date) is an indicative date. Once the e-liquid's date has passed, it may lose its taste qualities and its appearance (colour, viscosity). An e-liquid fresh from the factory will have a BBD of approximately 2 years. Even past its BBD, the e-liquid remains safe to vaporise and will not be harmful to health.
