The difference between an MTL (Mouth To Lung) and DTL (Direct To Lung) e-cigarette concerns the type of inhalation. With MTL, the vapour is first held in the mouth before being inhaled, as with a traditional cigarette. With DTL, the vapour is inhaled directly into the lungs, producing a larger volume of vapour, like a shisha. MTL is often recommended for new vapers who want to quit smoking, whereas DTL is aimed at more experienced vapers who have already successfully transitioned from tobacco to vaping.

To get started, it is advisable to choose an easy-to-use e-cigarette with few settings, moderate power and a tight draw (MTL). Pod kits or beginner kits are generally the most suitable for a successful first experience. However, some new vapers who are comfortable with settings and maintenance may prefer more advanced, adjustable equipment. It all depends on each person's confidence level.

A heavy smoker will need a reliable e-cigarette with good battery life (between 1,200 and 5,000 mAh) and a tight draw to absorb nicotine more effectively and avoid cravings. Versatile kits compatible with MTL and RDL (a tight or slightly airy draw) are often an excellent compromise for an effective transition to vaping. This e-cigarette should be paired with nicotine salt e-liquids to effectively address cravings.

The lifespan of an e-cigarette depends on its quality, maintenance and frequency of use. On average, a well-maintained kit can last several months or even several years, with only wear parts such as coils or cartridges needing to be replaced. The lithium battery inside an e-cigarette is estimated to have an optimal lifespan of 300 charge/discharge cycles before gradually declining. To extend this lifespan, make sure to charge your e-cigarette using mains chargers rated at no more than 1A (unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer) to minimise heating of the electronics.

Good news! E-cigarettes are becoming increasingly affordable for every budget, and you are in the right place at Le Vapoteur Discount to enjoy the best prices online. The average purchase price of an e-cigarette is estimated at €35. You will find e-cigarettes from €10 for the smallest models, as well as models costing up to €80 for the most advanced ones.

E-cigarettes are considered significantly less harmful than traditional cigarettes because they do not rely on combustion. They are mainly used as an alternative to tobacco to reduce the risks associated with smoking. They are often described as "a healthier alternative" to tobacco or as a "smoking cessation aid". When used correctly (preferably MTL), combined with good e-liquids (French-made and certified) and maintained regularly (cleaning and changing the coil every 2 weeks), they become a very effective tool for quitting tobacco, which is highly dangerous.

Many smokers use e-cigarettes as a smoking cessation tool. By replicating the gesture, sensation, inhalation and nicotine delivery, they make it easier to gradually quit tobacco. Success depends on using them appropriately: the right inhalation method (MTL), the right flavour, the right nicotine strength, the right design and a level of maintenance that suits the vaper. Every smoker is unique and will need a strategy tailored to their needs, but the latest studies (such as the Cochrane review of 1 March 2025) show that: "Nicotine e-cigarettes can help people stop smoking for at least six months. Evidence suggests that they work better than nicotine replacement therapy, and probably better than e-cigarettes without nicotine.". Using nicotine salt e-liquids may also be an advantage: "However, we still need evidence, particularly on the effects of newer types of e-cigarettes that deliver nicotine better than older ones, as better nicotine delivery could help more people to stop smoking."

Most e-cigarettes offer automatic power adjustment by detecting the coil resistance value (auto or smart mode). Other models allow precise manual adjustment. To find the right power setting for your e-cigarette, check the recommendations printed on the coil (or pod cartridge). You will find the recommended power range for optimal use. Tip: if your coil is new, leave it soaked in e-liquid for a few minutes so that it does not burn on first use. Also set the power to the lowest level recommended by the manufacturer for the first few puffs.

Maintaining an e-cigarette is simple. It mainly involves cleaning the tank or cartridge and replacing the coil when it is worn out. Regular maintenance ensures healthier vaping, better performance and a longer lifespan. On average, a coil should be changed every 2 to 3 weeks at most. Take the opportunity to thoroughly clean your clearomiser or cartridge. The drip tip alone can be cleaned with soapy water every day if you wish.

An e-cigarette with an integrated battery is charged directly via a USB cable and is easy to use. Models with removable batteries allow the battery to be replaced, often offering greater battery life, more power and better longevity, but they require slightly higher initial costs, more knowledge and additional equipment to charge and carry these batteries safely.

Yes, you are allowed to take an e-cigarette on a plane, but only in the cabin. It must be switched off and not used during the flight. Batteries are prohibited in checked luggage for safety reasons. As for your e-liquids, they must not exceed 100 ml if you are taking them with you in the cabin. Remember to carry your e-liquid bottles and clearomiser (or pod cartridge) in an airtight plastic bag. They may leak due to changes in pressure inside the aircraft.

If you are travelling abroad, remember to check the legislation concerning e-cigarettes. Some countries prohibit their use and may expose you to fines (examples in 2026: Cambodia, India, Laos, Qatar, Singapore, Thailand). Others allow you to possess an e-cigarette, but you will not find vape shops where you can buy e-liquids.
