Choosing the right 10 ml 50/50 PG/VG e-liquid

Essential to the operation of every e-cigarette, e-liquid determines flavour, throat hit and vapour production. The 10 ml format is the only one permitted by European regulations (TPD) to contain nicotine, up to a limit of 20 mg/ml. Compact and easy to carry, it lets you discover a flavour, adjust your nicotine strength or vape every day.

10 mlRegulated nicotine format
50/50Balanced PG/VG ratio
MTL / RDLMouth-to-lung or restricted direct-lung vaping
≤ 20 mg/mlMaximum nicotine strength (TPD)

Which nicotine strength should you choose?

The right nicotine strength depends on your tobacco consumption and habits. The aim is to achieve a comfortable throat hit, without irritation or cravings.

Profile Consumption Suggested strength Throat hit
Occasional smoker Fewer than 5 cigarettes / day 0 to 3 mg/ml ●○○○ Light
Moderate smoker 5 to 10 cigarettes / day 6 mg/ml ●●○○ Moderate
Regular smoker 10 to 20 cigarettes / day 12 mg/ml ●●●○ Pronounced
Heavy smoker More than 20 cigarettes / day 16 to 20 mg/ml ●●●● Intense

These guidelines are indicative: your preferences, the equipment used and your inhalation style may lead you to adjust your strength. The higher the vaping power, the stronger the throat hit: high strengths are best vaped mouth-to-lung (MTL). For high strengths, nicotine salts offer a smoother throat hit. The strengths available for this e-liquid are shown in the product-page selector.

The 50/50 PG/VG ratio: a versatile balance

An e-liquid is made up of a base of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG), flavourings and, where applicable, nicotine. PG carries flavours and throat hit, while VG provides smoothness and vapour volume. In equal parts, the 50/50 ratio combines these two properties.

Suitable equipment Pods, MTL Pods, kits, MTL and RDL clearomisers Mods, sub-ohm (DL)

Thanks to its fluidity, a 50/50 e-liquid properly saturates the coils of most clearomisers and cartridges, without being too thin for tight-draw models.

Which equipment for a 50/50 e-liquid?

50/50 is compatible with the vast majority of e-cigarettes. Here are the most suitable equipment categories and a few examples available from Le Vapoteur Discount:

Equipment Key points Examples
E-cigarettes Complete kits (battery + clearomiser), with simple or adjustable settings depending on the model. Kit Q16 Pro – Justfog
Kit PockeX Pocket AIO – Aspire
Kit Coolfire Z80 Zenith 2 – Innokin
Pods Compact format, refillable cartridges, use without complex settings. Kit Luxe XR Max 2 – Vaporesso
Kit Kiwi 2 – Kiwi Vapor
Kit Pixo Max – Aspire
Clearomisers Choose MTL or RDL models, compatible with 0.4 to 1.2 Ω coils. Zenith 2 – Innokin
Q16 Pro Plus – Justfog
GOZ+ – Innokin
Z Nano 3 – GeekVape

Recommended settings

The value of the coil and the power determine the type of draw. With a 50/50 e-liquid, the following guidelines provide a consistent vape:

Coil Type of draw Recommended power Suitable nicotine strength
1.0 to 1.2 Ω MTL – tight draw, similar to a cigarette 10 to 18 W All strengths
0.6 to 0.9 Ω MTL to RDL – intermediate draw 15 to 25 W Up to 12 mg/ml
0.4 to 0.5 Ω RDL – semi-airy draw 25 to 40 W 0 to 6 mg/ml

Always start at the lower end of the power range indicated on the coil, then increase gradually. For the drip tip, a 510 mouthpiece is suitable for most uses; an 810 drip tip can be used for RDL vaping on clearomisers designed for this format.

How to maintain your e-cigarette

1
Prime each new coil: place a few drops of e-liquid onto the cotton, fill the tank, then wait 5 to 10 minutes before first use.
2
Clean regularly the clearomiser or cartridge and the drip tip to prevent residue build-up.
3
Replace the coil as soon as flavours deteriorate or vapour production decreases (on average every 1 to 3 weeks depending on use), and take the opportunity to clean the tank thoroughly.
4
Avoid leaving a tank filled for more than 5 days without use, to limit leaks and flavour deterioration.

Usage and storage precautions

  • If you do not smoke, do not vape.
  • Product containing nicotine: prohibited for minors, not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or people with cardiovascular disorders or high blood pressure.
  • In the event of an allergy, check for the possible presence of allergens (limonene, linalool, etc.) indicated on the label.
  • In case of contact with skin, rinse thoroughly with soap and water.
  • Store your e-liquids closed, in a dry place away from light and temperature fluctuations, out of reach of children and animals.

Remember to recycle: empty bottles should be taken to appropriate collection points.

FAQ

An e-liquid (or liquid for e-cigarettes) is the product that generates vapour when heated by the coil of an e-cigarette. Unlike traditional cigarettes, there is no combustion. The e-liquid is composed of a base (propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin), flavourings, and optionally nicotine. It determines the taste, the throat sensation, cloud production, and the overall vaping experience.

An e-liquid generally contains four elements:

  • propylene glycol (PG), which carries the flavours, enhances the throat hit and provides a sensation close to that of a cigarette;
  • vegetable glycerin (VG), responsible for the vapour and the density of the cloud;
  • flavourings, which provide the taste (fruit, mint, classic tobacco, dessert, ice…);
  • nicotine, optional, which helps manage cravings for vapers who are quitting.

Some formulas also use alternative plant-based bases (Végétol) for a smoother experience.

An e-liquid with nicotine is intended for vapers who wish to replace traditional cigarettes. Nicotine acts on the feeling of satisfaction and reduces cravings. Nicotine-free e-liquids are used either at the end of the cessation process or purely for the pleasure of vaping, although it is not recommended to vape if you are not a smoker. Choosing the right nicotine level is essential to avoid a poor experience (irritation or cravings). The nicotine dosage depends on your previous cigarette consumption. A light smoker will not have the same needs as a heavy smoker. A level that is too low can lead to frustration and relapse, while a level that is too high can cause throat discomfort. The aim is to find a balance between hit, sensation and vaping comfort, adjusting gradually as needed. A low dosage of 0, 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine is generally recommended for light or occasional smokers (fewer than 7 cigarettes per day), and a high dosage of 20 mg/ml of nicotine salt for heavy smokers (1 pack of cigarettes or more per day). However, this dosage can be adjusted depending on your e-cigarette and the way you vape.

Nicotine salt is a more stable and smoother form of nicotine to inhale. It provides rapid absorption with a less harsh throat hit, even at high strengths. Nicotine salt e-liquids are particularly suited to beginner vapers, former heavy smokers and low-wattage MTL kits. Various nicotine salt dosages are available. The best-known and most effective is 20 mg/ml, which is highly suited to heavy smokers. However, a dosage of 10 mg/ml can work very well for regular or occasional smokers.

A nicotine booster is a nicotine-concentrated bottle designed to be added to a large-format e-liquid. It allows you to adjust the final nicotine level according to the quantity added. Flexible and cost-effective, this solution lets you boost your large-format e-liquid to 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine. For a 50 ml e-liquid, adding one nicotine booster will give you 3 mg/ml, while two nicotine boosters will bring your e-liquid up to 6 mg/ml.

The propylene glycol / vegetable glycerin ratio strongly influences the vaping experience.

  • An e-liquid high in propylene glycol or PG (70/30, 80/20) enhances the throat hit, flavour precision and discreet vapour production. The e-liquid will be fluid and compatible only with tight-draw MTL devices to avoid leaks.
  • An e-liquid high in vegetable glycerin or VG (30/70) produces more vapour and cloud, with a smoother, sweeter sensation. This thicker e-liquid will be compatible with sub-ohm or shisha-type e-cigarettes, producing large vapour clouds at high wattage.

The choice therefore depends on the wattage and compatibility with your e-cigarette. If in doubt, the most common ratio remains 50/50 PG/VG. Balanced, it allows versatile use across MTL, RDL and light DTL e-cigarette models (approximately between 15 and 40 watts).

Vegetable-base or Végétol e-liquids replace traditional propylene glycol. They are often gentler on the throat, better tolerated by vapers who are sensitive to PG, and offer a smoother vape without compromising on flavour. However, they should be used in MTL with low wattage (minimum 30 watts) to avoid the risk of leaks and to preserve product quality.

Yes, CBD e-liquids are designed for vaping and generally do not contain nicotine. They offer a different sensation, focused on relaxation, with no addictive effect. They should be used at moderate wattage to preserve product quality. It is recommended to use them with a tight-draw MTL e-cigarette.

E-liquids are considered a much healthier alternative to smoked tobacco. They are formulated from ingredients certified as safe for health, unlike the 7,000 harmful substances found in traditional cigarettes. Nevertheless, to choose a safe e-liquid, a few precautions should be taken, such as purchasing your e-liquid from a recognised retailer like Le Vapoteur Discount, or checking the composition and origin by favouring reputable and regulated brands.

An e-liquid manufactured in France complies with strict requirements and European directives regarding traceability, quality control and safety. As a guarantee of quality and transparency for the consumer, French and European brands generally have their own laboratory for developing their e-liquid formulas and are required to have these formulations assessed by an independent laboratory before going to market. All these steps ensure that e-liquids are safe for vapers. These French and European quality standards prohibit undesirable substances and provide a more secure framework for vaping.

To keep your e-liquid for as long as possible and preserve its quality, taste and colour, it should be kept in its original bottle and ideally away from light, heat and air. Despite these precautions, the e-liquid may sometimes take on a slightly brown tint. Safe and suitable for consumption, this colour is due to the oxidation of nicotine and may also depend on the flavouring used in the e-liquid. It is generally advised not to keep the same e-liquid in your clearomiser or pod cartridge for more than 5 days if you are not using it, to avoid leaks and excessive oxidation.

The DLUO (Best Before Date) or BBD (Best Before Date) is an indicative date. Once the e-liquid's date has passed, it may lose its flavour qualities and appearance (colour, fluidity). An e-liquid fresh from the factory will have a BBD of approximately 2 years. Even past the BBD, the e-liquid remains suitable for vaping and will not be harmful to health.
