Choosing the right 10 ml 70/30 PG/VG e-liquid

Essential for the operation of any electronic cigarette, e-liquid determines the flavour, throat hit and vapour produced. The 10 ml format is the only one permitted by European regulations (TPD) to contain nicotine, up to a limit of 20 mg/ml. Rich in propylene glycol, a 70/30 e-liquid is fluid, highly flavoursome and provides a pronounced throat hit, for an indirect inhale similar to the draw of a cigarette.

10 mlRegulated nicotine format
70/30PG-rich PG/VG ratio
MTLIndirect inhalation, tight draw
≤ 20 mg/mlMaximum nicotine strength (TPD)

Which nicotine strength should you choose?

The right nicotine strength depends on your tobacco consumption and habits. The aim is to achieve a comfortable throat sensation (the “hit”), without irritation or cravings. A 70/30 ratio is suitable for the full range of strengths, including high dosages, thanks to the low power used for MTL.

ProfileConsumptionSuggested strengthThroat sensation
Occasional smokerFewer than 5 cigarettes / day0 to 3 mg/ml●○○○ Light
Moderate smoker5 to 10 cigarettes / day6 mg/ml●●○○ Moderate
Regular smoker10 to 20 cigarettes / day12 mg/ml●●●○ Pronounced
Heavy smokerMore than 20 cigarettes / day16 to 20 mg/ml●●●● Intense

These guidelines are indicative: the sensation, equipment used and inhalation style may lead you to adjust your strength. As PG enhances the hit, a slightly lower strength than with a 50/50 may be enough. For high strengths, nicotine salts offer a gentler throat sensation. The strengths available for this e-liquid are shown in the product page selector.

The 70/30 PG/VG ratio: flavour and throat hit first

An e-liquid consists of a base of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG), flavourings and, where applicable, nicotine. PG carries the flavours and throat hit, while VG provides smoothness and vapour volume. With 70% PG, this ratio prioritises flavour precision and throat sensation, with discreet vapour.

Very fluid, a 70/30 e-liquid saturates tight-draw coils quickly. However, it is not recommended for sub-ohm equipment, where it may leak and produce an overly harsh hit.

What equipment for a 70/30 e-liquid?

A 70/30 ratio performs best with compact, MTL-oriented equipment focused on flavour delivery. Here are the most suitable equipment categories and a few examples available from Le Vapoteur Discount:

Recommended settings

The coil value and power determine the type of draw. With a 70/30 e-liquid, low power is enough to release the flavours:

CoilDraw typeSuggested powerSuitable nicotine strength
1.2 to 1.8 ΩMTL – tight draw, similar to a cigarette8 to 15 WAll strengths
0.8 to 1.2 ΩMTL – slightly more open draw12 to 20 WUp to 12 mg/ml

Always start at the lower end of the power range indicated on the coil, then increase gradually without exceeding 20 W. For the drip tip, a slim, elongated 510 mouthpiece concentrates flavours and enhances the mouthfeel.

Looking after your electronic cigarette

1
Prime every new coil: place a few drops of e-liquid onto the cotton, fill the tank, then wait a few minutes before first use.
2
Check for leaks: being fluid, 70/30 can leak if the coil resistance is too low or if the tank is not properly closed. Check the seals whenever you refill.
3
Replace the coil as soon as flavours deteriorate or vapour decreases (on average every 2 to 3 weeks, depending on use), and take the opportunity to thoroughly clean the tank and drip tip.
4
Avoid leaving a filled tank unused for more than 5 days to limit leaks and flavour deterioration.

Precautions for use and storage

  • If you do not smoke, do not vape.
  • Product containing nicotine: prohibited for minors, not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women and people suffering from cardiovascular disorders or hypertension.
  • In case of allergies, check for any allergens (limonene, linalool, etc.) listed on the label.
  • In the event of contact with skin, rinse thoroughly with soap and water.
  • Store your e-liquids closed, in a dry place away from light and temperature fluctuations, out of reach of children and animals.

Remember to recycle: empty bottles should be taken to suitable collection points.

FAQ

An e-liquid (or electronic cigarette liquid) is the product that generates vapour when heated by the coil of an electronic cigarette. Unlike traditional cigarettes, there is no combustion. The e-liquid is composed of a base (propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine), flavourings, and optionally nicotine. It determines the taste, the throat hit, the cloud production, and the overall vaping experience.

An e-liquid generally contains four elements:
  • propylene glycol (PG), which carries the flavours, enhances the throat hit and provides a sensation close to that of a cigarette;
  • vegetable glycerin (VG), responsible for the vapour and the density of the cloud;
  • flavourings, which give the taste (fruit, mint, classic tobacco, dessert, ice…);
  • nicotine, optional, which helps manage cravings for vapers who are cutting down.
Some formulas also use alternative plant-based bases (Végétol) for a smoother experience.

An e-liquid with nicotine is intended for vapers who wish to replace traditional cigarettes. Nicotine acts on the sensation of satisfaction and reduces cravings. Nicotine-free e-liquids are used either at the end of a quit attempt, or purely for the pleasure of vaping, although it is not recommended to vape if you are not a smoker. Choosing the right nicotine level is essential to avoid a bad experience (throat irritation or cravings). The nicotine dosage depends on your previous cigarette consumption. A light smoker will not have the same needs as a heavy smoker. A level that is too low can lead to frustration and relapse, while a level that is too high can cause throat discomfort. The goal is to find a balance between hit, sensation, and vaping comfort, adjusting gradually as needed. A low dosage of 0, 3, or 6 mg/ml of nicotine is generally recommended for light smokers or occasional smokers (fewer than 7 cigarettes per day), and a high dosage of 20 mg/ml of nicotine salt for heavy smokers (1 packet of cigarettes or more). However, this dosage can be adjusted depending on your e-cigarette and your vaping style.

Nicotine salt is a more stable form of nicotine that is smoother to inhale. It provides rapid absorption, with a less harsh throat hit, even at high strengths. Nicotine salt e-liquids are particularly suited to beginner vapers, former heavy smokers, and low-powered MTL kits. There are different nicotine salt strengths. The most well-known and effective being 20 mg/ml, which is very suitable for heavy smokers. However, a 10 mg/ml strength can work perfectly well for a regular or occasional smoker.

A nicotine booster is a concentrated nicotine bottle, designed to be added to a large-format e-liquid. It allows you to adjust the final nicotine level according to the quantity added. Flexible and economical, this solution allows you to boost your large-format e-liquid to 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine. For a 50 ml e-liquid, adding one nicotine booster will give you 3 mg/ml, while two nicotine boosters will turn your e-liquid into 6 mg/ml.

The propylene glycol / vegetable glycerine ratio strongly influences the vape.
  • An e-liquid rich in propylene glycol or PG (70/30, 80/20) enhances the throat hit, flavour accuracy and a discreet vape. The e-liquid will be fluid and compatible only with MTL devices with a tight draw to avoid leaks.
  • An e-liquid rich in vegetable glycerine or VG (30/70) produces more vapour and cloud, with a smoother, sweeter sensation. This thicker e-liquid will be compatible with sub-ohm or shisha-type e-cigarettes, producing large vapour clouds at high power.
The choice therefore depends on the power and compatibility with your e-cigarette. If in doubt, the most common ratio remains 50/50 PG/VG. Balanced, it allows versatile use on MTL, RDL and light DTL e-cigarette models (between approximately 15 and 40 watts).

E-liquids with a vegetable base or Végétol replace traditional propylene glycol. They are often gentler on the throat, better tolerated by vapers who are sensitive to PG, and offer a smoother vape without compromising on flavour. However, they should be used in MTL with a low wattage (minimum 30 watts) to avoid the risk of leaks and preserve the quality of the product.

Yes, CBD e-liquids are designed for vaping and generally do not contain nicotine. They offer a different sensation, focused on relaxation, without any addictive effect. They should be used at moderate wattage to preserve the quality of the product. For best results, use a MTL (mouth-to-lung) electronic cigarette with a tight draw.

E-liquids are considered a much healthier alternative to smoked tobacco. They are formulated from ingredients certified as safe for health, unlike the 7,000 harmful substances found in traditional cigarettes. Nevertheless, to choose a safe e-liquid, a few precautions should be taken, such as purchasing your e-liquid from a recognised retailer like Le Vapoteur Discount, or checking the composition and origin by favouring reputable and regulated brands.

An e-liquid manufactured in France meets strict requirements and European directives regarding traceability, control, and safety. As a mark of quality and transparency for the consumer, French and European brands generally have their own laboratory for developing their e-liquid formula and are required to have this formulation studied by an independent laboratory before it goes to market. All these steps guarantee e-liquids that are safe for vapers. These French and European quality standards prohibit undesirable substances and provide a more secure framework for vaping.

To keep your e-liquid as long as possible and preserve its quality, taste and colour, you should keep it in its original bottle and ideally away from light, heat and air. Despite these precautions, the e-liquid may sometimes take on a slightly brown tint. Safe and suitable for consumption, this colour is due to the oxidation of the nicotine and may also depend on the flavouring used in the e-liquid. It is generally recommended not to keep the same e-liquid for more than 5 days in your clearomiser or pod cartridge if you are not using it, to avoid leaks and excessive oxidation.

The DLUO (Date Limite d'Utilisation Optimale) or BBD (Best Before Date) is an indicative date. Once the e-liquid's date has passed, it may lose its taste qualities and appearance (colour, fluidity). An e-liquid fresh from the factory will have a BBD of approximately 2 years. Even past the BBD, the e-liquid remains suitable for vaping and will not be harmful to health.
