Choosing the right 10 ml 50/50 PG/VG e-liquid

Essential for the operation of any e-cigarette, e-liquid determines the flavour, throat hit and vapour produced. The 10 ml format is the only one permitted by European regulations (TPD) to contain nicotine, up to a limit of 20 mg/ml. Compact and easy to carry, it lets you discover a flavour, adjust your nicotine strength or vape every day.

10 mlRegulated nicotine format
50/50Balanced PG/VG ratio
MTL / RDLMouth-to-lung or restricted direct-lung vaping
≤ 20 mg/mlMaximum nicotine strength (TPD)

Which nicotine strength should you choose?

The right nicotine strength depends on your tobacco consumption and habits. The aim is to achieve a comfortable throat sensation (the “hit”), without irritation or cravings.

Profile Consumption Suggested strength Throat sensation
Occasional smoker Fewer than 5 cigarettes / day 0 to 3 mg/ml ●○○○ Light
Moderate smoker 5 to 10 cigarettes / day 6 mg/ml ●●○○ Moderate
Regular smoker 10 to 20 cigarettes / day 12 mg/ml ●●●○ Strong
Heavy smoker More than 20 cigarettes / day 16 to 20 mg/ml ●●●● Intense

These guidelines are indicative: your sensation, the device used and your inhalation style may lead you to adjust your strength. The higher the vaping power, the stronger the hit: high strengths are best vaped mouth-to-lung (MTL). For high strengths, nicotine salts provide a smoother throat sensation. The strengths available for this e-liquid are shown in the product page selector.

The 50/50 PG/VG ratio: a versatile balance

An e-liquid is made up of a propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG) base, flavourings and, where applicable, nicotine. PG carries flavour and throat hit, while VG provides smoothness and vapour volume. In equal proportions, the 50/50 ratio combines these two properties.

Suitable equipment Pods, MTL Pods, kits, MTL and RDL clearomisers Mods, sub-ohm (DL)

Thanks to its fluidity, a 50/50 e-liquid properly saturates the coils in most clearomisers and cartridges, without being too thin for tight-draw models.

What equipment for a 50/50 e-liquid?

50/50 is compatible with the vast majority of e-cigarettes. Here are the most suitable types of equipment and a few examples available from Le Vapoteur Discount:

Equipment Key points Examples
E-cigarettes Complete kits (battery + clearomiser), with simple or adjustable settings depending on the model. Kit Q16 Pro – Justfog
Kit PockeX Pocket AIO – Aspire
Kit Coolfire Z80 Zenith 2 – Innokin
Pods Compact format, refillable cartridges, use without complex settings. Kit Luxe XR Max 2 – Vaporesso
Kit Kiwi 2 – Kiwi Vapor
Kit Pixo Max – Aspire
Clearomisers Choose MTL or RDL models compatible with coils from 0.4 to 1.2 Ω. Zenith 2 – Innokin
Q16 Pro Plus – Justfog
GOZ+ – Innokin
Z Nano 3 – GeekVape

Recommended settings

The coil resistance and power determine the draw type. With a 50/50 e-liquid, the following guidelines provide stable vaping:

Coil Draw type Suggested power Suitable nicotine strength
1.0 to 1.2 Ω MTL – tight draw, similar to a cigarette 10 to 18 W All strengths
0.6 to 0.9 Ω MTL to RDL – intermediate draw 15 to 25 W Up to 12 mg/ml
0.4 to 0.5 Ω RDL – semi-airy draw 25 to 40 W 0 to 6 mg/ml

Always start at the lower end of the power range indicated on the coil, then increase gradually. For the drip tip, a 510 mouthpiece suits most uses; an 810 drip tip can be used for RDL on clearomisers designed for this format.

Maintaining your e-cigarette

1
Prime every new coil: place a few drops of e-liquid on the cotton, fill the tank, then wait 5 to 10 minutes before first use.
2
Clean regularly the clearomiser or cartridge and the drip tip to prevent residue build-up.
3
Replace the coil as soon as flavours deteriorate or vapour decreases (on average every 1 to 3 weeks, depending on use), and take the opportunity to clean the tank completely.
4
Avoid leaving a tank filled for more than 5 days without use, to limit leaks and flavour deterioration.

Use and storage precautions

  • If you do not smoke, do not vape.
  • Product containing nicotine: prohibited for minors, not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or people with cardiovascular conditions or high blood pressure.
  • In case of allergy, check for the possible presence of allergens (limonene, linalool, etc.) listed on the label.
  • In case of skin contact, rinse thoroughly with soap and water.
  • Keep your e-liquids closed, in a dry place away from light and temperature variations, out of reach of children and animals.

Remember to recycle: empty bottles should be taken to suitable collection points.

FAQ

An e-liquid (or liquid for electronic cigarette) is the product that generates vapour when heated by the coil of an electronic cigarette. Unlike traditional cigarettes, there is no combustion. The e-liquid is made up of a base (propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine), flavourings, and optionally nicotine. It determines the taste, the throat hit, the cloud production, and the overall vaping experience.

An e-liquid generally contains four elements:
  • propylene glycol (PG), which carries the flavours, enhances the throat hit and provides a sensation close to that of a cigarette;
  • vegetable glycerin (VG), responsible for vapour production and cloud density;
  • flavourings, which give the taste (fruit, mint, classic tobacco, dessert, ice…);
  • nicotine, optional, which helps manage cravings for vapers who are quitting smoking.
Some formulas also use alternative plant-based bases (Végétol) for extra smoothness.

An e-liquid with nicotine is intended for vapers who wish to replace traditional cigarettes. Nicotine acts on the feeling of satisfaction and limits cravings. E-liquids without nicotine are used either at the end of a quitting process, or purely for the pleasure of vaping, although it is not recommended to vape if you are not a smoker. The choice of nicotine level is essential to avoid a poor experience (irritation or cravings). The nicotine dosage depends on your previous cigarette consumption. A light smoker will not have the same needs as a heavy smoker. A level that is too low can lead to frustration and relapse, whilst a level that is too high can cause throat discomfort. The aim is to find a balance between hit, sensation and vaping comfort, adjusting gradually as needed. A low dosage of 0, 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine is generally recommended for light smokers or occasional smokers (fewer than 7 cigarettes per day), and a high dosage of 20 mg/ml of nicotine salt for a heavy smoker (1 packet of cigarettes or more). However, this dosage can be adjusted depending on your e-cigarette and your vaping style.

Nicotine salt is a more stable form of nicotine that is smoother to inhale. It provides rapid absorption, with a less harsh throat hit, even at high strengths. Nicotine salt e-liquids are particularly well suited to beginner vapers, former heavy smokers, and low-wattage MTL kits. There are various nicotine salt strengths available. The most well-known and effective is 20 mg/ml, which is highly suited to heavy smokers. However, a 10 mg/ml strength can be perfectly suitable for a regular or occasional smoker.

A nicotine booster is a concentrated nicotine bottle, designed to be added to a large-format e-liquid. It allows you to adjust the final nicotine level depending on the quantity added. Flexible and cost-effective, this solution allows you to boost your large-format e-liquid to 3 or 6 mg/ml of nicotine. For a 50 ml e-liquid, adding one nicotine booster will give you 3 mg/ml, while two nicotine boosters will turn your e-liquid into 6 mg/ml.

The propylene glycol / vegetable glycerine ratio strongly influences the vape.
  • An e-liquid rich in propylene glycol or PG (70/30, 80/20) enhances the throat hit, flavour accuracy and a discreet vape. The e-liquid will be thin and compatible only with MTL devices with a tight draw to avoid leaks.
  • An e-liquid rich in vegetable glycerine or VG (30/70) produces more vapour and clouds, with a smoother, sweeter sensation. This thicker e-liquid will be compatible with sub-ohm or shisha-type e-cigarettes, producing large clouds of vapour at high power.
The choice therefore depends on the power and compatibility with your e-cigarette. If in doubt, the most common ratio remains 50/50 PG/VG. Balanced, it allows versatile use on MTL, RDL and light DTL e-cigarette models (between approximately 15 and 40 watts).

E-liquids with a vegetable base or with Végétol replace traditional propylene glycol. They are often gentler on the throat, better tolerated by vapers who are sensitive to PG, and offer a smoother vape without compromising on flavour. However, they should be used in MTL with a low wattage (minimum 30 watts) to avoid the risk of leaks and preserve the quality of the product.

Yes, CBD e-liquids are designed for vaping and generally do not contain nicotine. They offer a different sensation, focused on relaxation, with no addictive effect. They should be used at a moderate wattage to preserve the quality of the product. A tight-draw MTL e-cigarette is recommended for use with them.

E-liquids are considered a much healthier alternative to smoked tobacco. They are formulated from ingredients certified as safe for health, unlike the 7,000 harmful substances found in traditional cigarettes. Nevertheless, to choose a safe e-liquid, a few precautions should be taken, such as purchasing your e-liquid from a recognised retailer like Le Vapoteur Discount, or checking the composition and origin by favouring reputable and regulated brands.

An e-liquid manufactured in France meets strict requirements and European directives regarding traceability, control, and safety. As a guarantee of quality and transparency for the consumer, French and European brands generally have their own laboratory for developing their e-liquid formula and are required to have this formulation studied by an independent laboratory before placing it on the market. All these steps ensure that e-liquids are safe for vapers. These French and European quality standards prohibit undesirable substances and offer a more secure framework for vaping.

To keep your e-liquid as long as possible and preserve its quality, taste and colour, you should keep it in its original bottle and ideally away from light, heat and air. Despite these precautions, it can happen that the e-liquid takes on a slightly brown tint. Safe and suitable for consumption, this colour is due to the oxidation of nicotine and can also depend on the flavouring used in the e-liquid. It is generally recommended not to keep the same e-liquid for more than 5 days in your clearomiser or pod cartridge if you are not using it, to avoid leaks and excessive oxidation.

The DLUO (Date Limite d'Utilisation Optimale) or BBD (Best Before Date) is an indicative date. Once the e-liquid's date has passed, it may lose its taste qualities and appearance (colour, fluidity). An e-liquid straight from the factory will have a BBD of approximately 2 years. Even past the BBD, the e-liquid remains suitable for vaping and will not be harmful to health.
