For a few years now, the e-cigarette has grown significantly in France and in many other countries around the world. Every month, new enthusiasts emerge. We often hear about the benefits of vaping for our health, and the advantages of this substitute for cigarettes as a way to quit smoking, but few organizations mention the other benefits that the e-cigarette can offer, particularly in terms of preserving the planet.

4.3 trillion cigarette butts are thrown away every year around the globe. Per second, that amounts to 137,000 butts discarded. The Planétoscope website allows you to see this horrifying reality in real time. And the figures currently given are rather alarming: 1,740,997,500,839 cigarette butts thrown away worldwide since January 1st, and the number only keeps growing!
Cigarette butts that are difficult to recycle
98% of cigarettes are sold with filters, meaning 98% more pollution. Filters are indeed very polluting and difficult to recycle. Made of acetate and cellulose, they are treated with titanium dioxide, then compressed with triacetin. What complicated names, you might say! The important thing to remember is that all these components are unfortunately very polluting, due to the many chemical substances they contain.
Indeed, cigarette butts are among the most commonly discarded everyday objects and among the most polluting. A single cigarette butt takes nearly 12 years to break down in nature. If thrown on the street, it will therefore remain there for more than a decade. An infinitely long time when compared to a human life. But that's not all: that same cigarette butt will also pollute 500 liters of water!
Cigarette butts are therefore one of the main types of waste on our planet, on a par with plastic and many other components.
The e-cigarette is reusable and does not use filters. No more cigarette butts on the ground, on the beach, or in the water. With the e-cigarette, cigarette butts are a thing of the past!
The smoke from e-cigarettes is far less toxic. Producing no combustion, it is indeed less polluting than tobacco. When smoking regular cigarettes, a smoker releases into the surrounding air many toxic products and nearly 40 carcinogenic substances found in tobacco, nicotine, flavorings… When vaping, the e-cigarette emits a certain vapor — this vapor is nothing more and nothing less than water vapor!
Forget disposable e-cigarettes, opt for reusable e-cigarettes of good quality to preserve the environment. The e-cigarette can indeed be kept for many years, provided it is well looked after. Of course, batteries and resistances sometimes need to be replaced, but for the rest, everything can be kept. Moreover, batteries can be recycled like ordinary batteries. Other components that make them up are also recyclable.
E-liquid plastic containers are also polluting. However, you can reduce the impact of their use on the planet by opting for larger formats 50 ml or 100 ml. This way, you can reduce the amount of plastic used.
Contact our customer service to find out more about recycling your e-cigarette. No more simply tossing everything in a regular bin! To avoid pollution, the best action is always recycling!
A regular cigarette is packed with chemical substances that are just as bad for our own health as they are for the planet's! To reduce land pollution, water pollution, and also air pollution, opting for the e-cigarette may seem more effective than the traditional cigarette. You will reduce the number of cigarette butts thrown on the streets and will produce smoke that is far less toxic than that of tobacco.
