World No Tobacco Day 2026: quitting smoking remains the objective

On the occasion of 31 May, Le Vapoteur Discount looks back on World No Tobacco Day 2026 and the role of vaping in smoking cessation.

Every year, on 31 May, World No Tobacco Day mobilises public health stakeholders around a shared objective: reducing smoking and helping smokers break free from their tobacco dependence. Organised by the World Health Organisation (WHO), this day highlights the consequences of tobacco on health and encourages prevention and smoking cessation initiatives.

In 2026, the theme chosen by the WHO is: "Unmasking the seduction tactics". A campaign targeting the marketing strategies of the tobacco industry… but also, increasingly clearly, those of nicotine products and vaping.

At Le Vapoteur Discount, we share one essential point with this world day: yes, smokers must be helped to quit. Where our approach differs is in the way we support this transition.

A World No Tobacco Day created to reduce smoking

For several years, World No Tobacco Day has addressed various topics related to smoking:

  • in 2019: "Tobacco and lung health"
  • in 2020: "The secret is revealed"
  • in 2022: "Tobacco: threat to our environment"
  • in 2023: "Grow food, not tobacco"
  • in 2024: "Protecting young people from tobacco industry interference"
  • in 2026: "Unmasking the seduction tactics"

Through these campaigns, the WHO seeks to raise public awareness, particularly among young people, of the dangers of tobacco and the mechanisms of nicotine dependence, notably through vaping.

On this point, we all agree: no minor should start smoking or vaping.

But at the same time, we must not forget another reality: millions of adult smokers seek a solution to quit tobacco every year.

The electronic cigarette: a transition tool for adult smokers

For several years, the electronic cigarette has established itself as an alternative to combustible tobacco for many former smokers.

Unlike the traditional cigarette, vaping does not rely on the combustion of tobacco. Yet it is primarily the toxic substances produced by this combustion — tars, carbon monoxide and thousands of chemical compounds — that are responsible for smoking-related diseases.

Vaping is not a trivial product. It is not intended for non-smokers or minors. But for an adult smoker, it can represent a transitional step towards a cigarette-free life.

This is indeed what many vapers observe every day:

  • gradual reduction of tobacco consumption;
  • complete cessation of cigarettes;
  • better management of cravings;
  • more gradual support for nicotine withdrawal.

The goal is not to create new addicts. The goal is to help smokers break free from tobacco.

An anti-vaping discourse worries some former smokers

For a few years now, the discourse around vaping has been becoming increasingly restrictive in certain international campaigns. Bans on flavours, product limitations, increased taxation, reduced visibility… the proposals keep multiplying.

Yet many former smokers explain that they managed to quit cigarettes precisely thanks to:

  • easy-to-use equipment;
  • a sensation close to that of a cigarette;
  • an adapted nicotine dosage;
  • or even flavours that helped them avoid going back to tobacco.

Removing all the levers that facilitate this transition raises an important question: how can we continue to effectively support adult smokers in quitting tobacco?

The debate deserves to exist without caricature.

At Le Vapoteur Discount, we remain on the side of smokers who want to quit

Le Vapoteur Discount has never aimed to normalise nicotine among young people or non-smokers.

Our approach is clear: to offer adult smokers an alternative to tobacco and support them in quitting smoking.

This involves:

  • electronic cigarettes suited to beginners;
  • e-liquids with different nicotine levels;
  • tips to get started;
  • accessible products;
  • and gradual support towards reducing tobacco use.

Because quitting smoking is often a long, personal, and sometimes difficult journey.

Some people quit overnight. Others need a more gradual transition. The essential goal always remains the same: giving up combustible cigarettes.

Quitting smoking: every step counts

On the occasion of this World No Tobacco Day 2026, the most important message remains this: it is never too late to try to quit smoking.

Patches, gums, medical support, electronic cigarettes, smoking cessation follow-up… every smoker can find the method that suits them.

The important thing is not to face tobacco alone.

At Le Vapoteur Discount, we will continue to support all smokers seeking an alternative to tobacco and a solution to move towards a cigarette-free life.
