Choosing between all these coils: Single or double coil? TC, NI, TI, SS?
You can opt for a single coil to enjoy a long-lasting solution with average heating capacity.
You can opt for a single coil to enjoy a long-lasting solution with average heating capacity.
First of all, it seems important to define what a coil is. Behind this technical name lies a very simple component. Indeed, the coil is the English word that refers to the spool or the coil found on an electronic cigarette.
The coil thus takes the form of a metallic resistive wire resembling a spool; hence its name "coil". It also consists of a cotton wick soaked in vape liquid. Through the action of the battery on the coil, the resistive wire heats up and causes the vaporization of the e-liquid. The coil therefore plays an essential role in the functioning of an e-cigarette. Furthermore, at each end of this wire, there are mounting tabs that allow it to be easily integrated into your atomizer or clearomizer.
Over time, the coil of your e-cigarette will naturally deteriorate and will eventually need to be replaced. Poor use of your vaping device can also lead to faster damage to your coil; which will force you to replace it prematurely. It is therefore recommended not to exceed the heating temperature or the Watts advised for your coil; if you want to preserve its integrity for as long as possible. Furthermore, it is strongly advised against heating your coil dry; when your e-liquid tank is empty or nearly empty. Our article on e-liquid leaks tells you everything:

You should know that there are different types of coils (single and dual). These naturally come with their own advantages and disadvantages. So, depending on your vaping preferences, feel free to opt for the type of coil that suits you best.
As its name suggests, the single coil is made up of just one coil. It features a classic configuration found on most electronic box models. Logically, a configuration with a single coil will consume less energy than a dual coil configuration; since the battery energy is transmitted to only one coil. On the other hand, the single coil will take a little longer to heat up and vaporize the e-liquid contained in the tank of your electronic cigarette. Furthermore, you will naturally take longer to consume your vape liquid than with a dual coil; since only one cotton wick will be in contact with your e-liquid. The volume of vapor produced with a single coil is also lower and the throat hit, less pronounced.
The single coil will thus be more than sufficient to meet the needs of vapers who prefer to prioritize the battery life of their vape device, rather than enjoying the best performance. On the other hand, more demanding vapers will tend to lean towards a dual coil system.
Your vaping device can also be equipped with an atomizer or clearomizer that has two coils. This is referred to as a dual coil. This type of coil is reserved for users who want optimal performance. Indeed, since two coils are present in the clearomizer or atomizer and the battery powers each of them, the power output is necessarily higher. The heating speed of your electronic cigarette is thus increased with two coils. However, more power also means greater energy consumption. This is why your battery will need to be recharged more frequently than if you only had a single coil.
Consumers who vape for pleasure and who want, for example, to produce large clouds of vapor, will be more inclined to use two coils. Indeed, the vaporization of the e-liquid takes place much more quickly than with a single coil, since two wicks are in direct contact with the said vape liquid. This will naturally produce a greater quantity of vapor, to the delight of enthusiasts! Moreover, beginner vapers who wish to start a nicotine withdrawal by gradually reducing their dosage, will first want to find a strong throat hit; one that reminds them of the sensation of a cigarette. In this regard, having a dual coil can be a wise choice, as the heating power delivered will be more likely to reproduce the expected hit.
Finally, when replacing your coil, you will need to change not one but two coils. This means a higher budget than if you were running a single coil configuration.

Did you understand?
Depending on the electronic cigarette model you choose, you will need to go for a compatible single or dual coil (according to your preferences). To do so, refer to the usage instructions included with your vaping device and make sure to follow the guidelines carefully, equipping yourself with a coil with an appropriate Ohm value.
Furthermore, it is interesting to note that depending on the adjustment modes available on your e-cigarette, certain coils will be more suitable than others. Indeed, if your device has modes that allow you to regulate your vaping experience by providing more or less heat or power (expressed in Watts or Volts), you can opt for coils with a resistance greater than 1 Ohm. Depending on the electronic box model you own, certain types of coils may be incompatible. Furthermore, if it is impossible to adjust the Watts or voltage on your vaping device battery, you should prioritize a coil above 1.5 Ohm. We would then recommend electronic cigarettes for experienced vapers such as the Aegis GeekVape brand.
Finally, you need a specific coil to be able to use the modes available on your e-cigarette. Indeed, if the wire of your coil is made of titanium, nickel, stainless steel or nichrome, you will then be able to use the temperature control modes (TC, NI, TI, SS). On the other hand, if it is made of kanthal, you will only be able to use VW (Watts) or VV (Volts) modes. You can always set the right wattage for your coils.
